I was proud that I could finish it on time and the art work too even though I was first aiming for good sound effects. And I wish that I could maybe make the video better planned and less confusing.

Hi reader! I am Xavier Garcia, a 28 year old that owns a cigar factory in Santiago of Cuba during the Cuban Revolution. I was a factory worker in my early years but grabbed the opportunity of the US market and started a factory. I lived through the Cuban Revolution from 1952-1959, and ended up to live in America after the revolution. Here is my journal! Please read it!
Comparing before and after the Cuban Revolution, there were both changes and continuities. Before the revolution, Cuba was recognized by the public as a democratic country. A presidential election was held every four years to determine the president between two candidates. But after the revolution, Castro publicly stated that Cuba was to become a socialist country, and no more elections were held anymore. Another change of Cuba is the relations between other countries. Cuba was economically dependent on the US before the revolution. 75% of Cuba’s imports were from the US and 67% of Cuba’s exports were to the US. Tourists from the US also boosted Cuba’s economy and Cuba had a good diplomatic relation with the US. However, mainly due to the nationalization of companies and factories angered the US, the diplomatic relation deteriorated. An embargo was placed by the US on Cuba and later the US also funded and directed the Bay of Pigs Invasion on Cuba. Because of the embargo, Cuba had to find a new market and was later trading with the USSR and become an ally of socialist countries.
At the same time, there are also continuities. Dictatorship continued. Before the revolution, although Cuba was recognized as a democratic country, Batista was the person in power behind the scenes. He then came out of the scenes and became a dictator in 1952 after the coup and changed the election results after to stay as president. After the revolution, when Castro came to power, he still was the dictator and didn’t hold any elections. He continued his dictatorship until 2011 and passed away in 2016. Another continuity was that Cuba still needed to rely on another country. Before the revolution, most imports and exports were from and to the US like the data I mentioned above. After the revolution, according to wikipedia “By the late 1960s, Cuba became dependent on Soviet economic, political, and military aid”. Though it changed from the US to the USSR, Cuba still needed another country to help sustain its economy.
Quiet Power, a non-fiction book by Susan Cain, Gregory Mone, and Erica Moroz, explains the often-misunderstood shy introverts. A lot of introverts face social pressure of their passions or personality. But many people, including introverts themselves, often don’t see how introverts are good listeners and great thinkers because of their observant nature and enjoyment of time of solitude.
One of the theme of this book that keeps coming up is “Don’t have pressure and just be you”, I used the bubble note-taking method to connect ideas and evidence over the many parts of the book related to this theme.
One of the central ideas the author is trying to let us understand is that “Introverts often notice, listen, and value others ideas and needs”. I used the bubble note-taking method again to connect ideas and evidence related to this central idea.
At the same time, it is very important for us to understand all kinds of people if we want to build a positive and welcoming community to all. The book introduces many common traits of introverts, how they might react to certain events or in certain situations, and explains the reason behind these traits and reactions. I used the cause and effect note-taking method and use arrows to show the causes and effects of an event or “phenomenon”.
Also, there are many small pieces of stories in this book mainly about how introverts act or react, many of these stories contain realistic problems that can lead to multiple debatable arguments that not just are about introverts, but also every individual in the society. I used the boxes and bullet note-taking method to first highlight the arguments by boxing them, then adding different perspectives and my perspective by “bulleting” them.

The found poem above was from writing “Button, button” which is a short story by Richard Matheson. It shows the man versus man conflict between Arthur, the protagonist, and Norma, the antagonist. The conflict is the different opinions of the two characters of the money giving button, Arthur thinks it’s immoral because it will kill a person they don’t know, but Norma only sees the 50 thousand dollars and tries cover the murder part with guesses, like what if it doesn’t actually murder, or it’s might just be an experiment.
