The United States of America is probably the most well-known and influential nation of modern times, yet just around 400 years ago this would be of huge surprise to any person. America was ruled by another country and the citizens believed that it was their nationality; they all thought that they were the British people, however weird that sounds. As a sensible man once said, “there is something absurd in supposing a continent to be perpetually governed by an island.” The European-Americans had been wealthy British people for nearly 150 years now and had been pretty satisfied with their lives, but then again they always wanted more land for their farms. This actually became a problem as most of the other close land in the Americas was owned by the french, so the British government got this bright idea to start a war for the land. The war landed them in bad debt and so the government decided to tax the wealthy colonists. The colonists were not too into this idea and believed that it must end immediately, and thus started the American revolution.
