Researching a Starting point +Mind Map- Choices, Choices, Choices

The next project is called CHOICES, CHOICES, CHOICES.

For this project, I have 3 main ideas:

Made with Padlet

Texture Photography: Texture photography is a genre of photography that focuses on capturing the detailed surface qualities and textures of various objects or subjects. It emphasizes surfaces’ tactile and visual properties, such as roughness, smoothness, patterns, and fine details photography allows photographers to explore and appreciate the visual richness and diversity of textures in the world around us. Focusing on these details brings attention to the often-overlooked textural qualities that can add depth, interest, and a tactile element to the viewing experience.

Architectural Photography: Photography with buildings, also known as architectural photography, involves capturing images of buildings and structures in a visually appealing and informative manner. It focuses on showcasing the architectural design, details, and the overall character of the buildings. Photography with buildings offers a wide range of creative opportunities. By paying attention to composition, lighting, perspective, details, and context, you can capture the unique character, design, and beauty of architectural structures in your photographs.

Mirror Photography: Mirror photography, also known as reflective photography, refers to using mirrors or reflective surfaces to create unique and intriguing visual effects in photographs. It involves incorporating mirrors as compositional elements to capture reflections, manipulate perspectives, and create interesting compositions. Whether used for capturing reflections, manipulating perspectives, or adding a touch of visual intrigue, mirror photography offers a wide range of creative possibilities. It allows photographers to engage with their surroundings uniquely and imaginatively, creating photographs that challenge perceptions and evoke a sense of wonder.

Out of the 3 choices I chose Texture Photography.

Analyzing an Artist:

One artist who inspired me was Edward Weston. Edward Weston (1886-1958) was an influential American photographer known for his mastery of black-and-white photography and his contributions to modernist photography. He is widely recognized as one of the most significant figures in the history of photography.

One of his works is:

Cabbage Leaf is a black and white photograph taken by Edward Weston in 1931. The picture demonstrates the artist’s renewed interest in the physical textures of vegetables, seashells, and other objects that were the subject of many of his photographs at this time. It exemplifies his ability to elevate the ordinary and invite viewers to appreciate the beauty and intricacy of the natural world. The image continues to inspire and resonate with audiences, showcasing Weston’s enduring influence on the field of photography.
