Design for Needy Pets: The Structure

The Structure allows the cat or any other animal to be distracted while their owner is working.

One thing I’d like to change is the stairs because the gaps between the stairs are to big for a real life animal to jump to. I wish I had made more stairs in between so the animal could climb up conveniently.

My biggest obstacle was the platform on the top. Because is was pretty hard to use the compass and draw the circle and cutting it. It was also the hot glue bowls (located on the platform at the bottom, the two white things.) I had to make a blob of hot glue and shaping it for like 10 minutes. I t was hard to keep it in place without it going all over The Structure.

The Bowling Game Project Reflection

My biggest success was about the ramp. At first, me and my partner, Monica, had no idea how to make a ramp. Because we can’t make the cardboard curvy. And it took a pretty long time to figure out that it could be diagonal. This could also move forward and backward for the player to get balance and hit the pins down.

My biggest obstacle was making the pins. In the beginning, we thought that we could make the pins out of tape so we could make the shape of pins, but after, we realized that is was too light. It all started when I looked at the “Cardboard Attachment” poster. Then I saw this genius idea when the weight, shape, and size is perfect to be pins for our game. It’s called the Slot.

One thing I would like to change is maybe the name. Because our name of the game is not that creative. We did not have enough time to make a attractive, creative name.

Cup Insulator Design Challenge

Cup Insulator Design Challenge

Group members: Meagan and Monica

The objective is to make an insulator for the cup and keep the drink in the cup hot as long as possible and the temperature doesn’t drop fast.

First, we read the question and knew what was going on. Then we started on what our design should look like. We shared out our thinking and design together and thought which one would be better to make. We drew the design on the Brainstorm sheet and wrote the steps of how to do the design. So we made a prototype with paper and thought what kind of materials should we use.

Then, we gathered the materials which are foam, Velcro, tin foil (with a sticky side), and potato plastic wrapper. We started cutting the shapes out and gluing the shapes together into a certain cup shape.

Next, we tested the insulator if it fits the cup and tested if it is waterproof and make sure that there was a hole to drink from.

In the end, my partner, Monica, downloaded a app called “Logger Pro” So we could test how many degrees we have lost in 10 minutes. The teacher poured the hot water into the cup with the insulator on the cup. We lost 12 degrees.
