This photograph captures a natural scene primarily focused on trees and the sky, creating a sense of tranquility and connection to nature.

  1. Composition: The upward perspective emphasizes the height of the trees, drawing the viewer’s gaze towards the sky. This approach creates a feeling of openness and immersion in the natural environment.
  2. Framing: The trees frame the sky, guiding the viewer’s eye toward the sunlight and creating a focal point in the image. This technique helps balance the composition

Dynamic Angle: The upward angle gives the image a sense of depth and dimension.

Natural Light: The bright sunlight enhances the textures of the rock and the roof, casting shadows that add depth and dimensionality.

Contrast: The interplay of light and shadow highlights the surface details of the rock, making it a focal point against the backdrop of the architecture.

Asymmetrical Balance: The rock occupies a significant portion of the frame, while the building is positioned in the upper section. This creates a balanced yet dynamic composition that draws the eye.

Focus on Foreground: The foreground rock is likely in sharper focus, while the background building is slightly softer, emphasizing the rock’s texture and creating a layered effect.

This photograph features a landscape with a body of water in the foreground, likely a lake, alongside a group of people engaging in various activities. In the background, there are tall, modern buildings, indicating an urban environment.

Composition: The juxtaposition of natural elements (water, trees) against the urban backdrop of high-rise buildings creates a contrast between nature and city life.

Lighting: The natural light enhances the scene, casting reflections on the water and creating a serene atmosphere.

Mood: Overall, the image conveys a sense of tranquility mixed with the hustle of city life, prompting reflections on the balance between nature and urbanization.

Artists Research-Shadows

Ren Fuller is a self-taught photographer enamored by our planet and inspired by good light. She loves capturing stories about faraway places, food.

“Early morning light on a clear day is nice because the shadows are long, and there’s a slight diffusion or haze before any dew or clouds burn off.”

For most of her photography, she uses light and shade to make contrast and therefore demonstrating the theme “shadows”. The second photography is really interesting, since the focus of this photography is the people that walking downstairs, and there’s no other color, only black and white ( which is the sunlight). And there’s also reflection of the trees branches or leaves on the wall, which is also a shadows.

Natasha Lee is a distinguished professional known for her impactful work in [specific field or industry, e.g., healthcare, technology, arts].

The photograph captures a serene beach scene during twilight, characterized by a gradient sky transitioning from deep blue to warm tones near the horizon. First, the placement of the figures creates a dynamic and lively scene, contrasting with the calm water and sky. Second, the horizon line is low, emphasizing the sky and water, demonstrating the theme shadows contrasts.

For the second photography, the boat is the focal point, positioned centrally in the frame, which draws the viewer’s attention. The light appears bright and reflective, creating a sparkling effect on the water’s surface, and the use of a limited color palette, likely dominated by whites and soft grays,

”道德仁义礼“

My intention is to express the traditional Chinese culture, which is Tao(道), virtue(德), benevolence(仁), righteousness(义) and courtesy(礼). This is the minimum moral code advocated by Confucianism. These five words can reflect the fine moral traditions of our country. I want to combine these five words with contemporary society to reflect the spirit and connotation of the times. The meaning of these words is portrayed by taking photos of different people. In order to make these photographs more interesting, I decided to take close up photographs of people’s faces. This has an effect on fully demonstrating the words and also gaining attentions from the audience. For my final photographs, I will choose five best ones that shows “Tao(道), virtue(德), benevolence(仁), righteousness(义) and courtesy(礼)”. In terms of the editing process, I will insert each word on a photo that can best reflect its connotation.

Secondly, I want to divide a picture into black and white, which implies the Chinese Tai Chi diagram. Although the Tai Chi diagram is not a language, it uses black and white to express a lot of information. The Tai Chi diagram uses black and white to form a pattern. Black and white are the ideal expression of the ancient Yin and Yang theory. The night is black and the day is white. Black also represents “Yin”, on the contrary, white represents “Yang”, which is what the ancients often said that there is Yin in Yang and Yang in Yin. We can simply understand it as “Good people also have shortcomings, and bad people also have good intentions. Nothing in the universe is absolute.” This is the dialectical thought of ancient China, and Lao Tzu was one of the earliest people to create this thought.

The technique that I used in these photographs is depth of field, because the background is blurring and the main focus is on the person. Another technique that I use is framing, since the main object is right in the middle of the frame, and this can draw attention to the audience and emphasize the importance of the object.

Artist Analysis

Jenny Holzer is an American conceptual and installation artist whose work deploys text in public spaces across an array of media, including electronic signs, carved stone, paintings, billboards, and printed materials (hausewirth).

By analyzing these four photographs taken by Jenny, we can notice that she uses vibrate color combining with technology to present the theme” signs”. And these colors emphasizes on the signs and words. For most of her photography, she placed the main object in the middle of the frame and this can makes the ” word or sign” more stands out. And for the rest of the photography, she uses the technique rule of third, which the architecture and the words are leaning right direction. Also, the composition of these photographs is very interesting. The way that these objects are placed is very complex, it has different shapes and it can either be very regular or very intricacy.
