Marius Vieth:

Marius Vieth is a talented photographer who is well-known for his captivating long exposure and light painting techniques. His work often focuses on movement, capturing the movement of people and cars, especially in dark settings where colorful lights are prominent. In his photos, the backgrounds are usually pitch black, showing negative space. This helps to highlight the brightness, and the colorful lights. This contrast between the vibrant colors and the dark surroundings creates a striking visual effect. The way he captures movement gives his images a sense of energy and a dreamy dynamism. The colorful lights stand out beautifully against the dark background, showcasing what is known as negative space. The result is a collection of images that not only highlight the beauty of movement,  but also emphasizing the differences in lighting. Each photo tells a story through the colors and movement, inviting viewers to experience the scene in a unique way.

For my final photos, I want to emulate Vieth’s style by capturing movement in the dark using bright colors and strong contrasts. I am going to create images that reflect the same energy and vibrancy, showcasing the beauty of movement and light in a way that draws in the viewer. Also aiming to create movement on lights.

Ernst Haas:

Ernst Haas is an influential photographer who made a significant impact on the world of photography. His work is renowned for its stunning use of color contrast, especially in the interplay between light and shadow which I personally really like. Haas has a unique ability to capture lights, people, and buildings in a way that creates beautiful trails of light, known as light tracks. In his photographs, you can see how he uses shutter speed to create these light trails, which show the paths that moving objects have taken. This technique gives his images a sense of motion and helps to convey the energy of a scene. The use of negative space in his work further enhances this effect, allowing the colors to pop out and draw the viewer’s attention. The colors in Haas’s photographs often create fascinating patterns in the sky, illustrating the journey of the objects he captures. This adds a layer of storytelling to his work, as viewers can visualize the movement over time.

For my own photography, I plan to incorporate the idea of lighting movement, similar to how Haas created those beautiful light tracks. I will focus on capturing images of buildings and urban settings, aiming to produce more colorful light trails. By experimenting with different lighting techniques, I hope to create vibrant, dynamic, and dreamy images that evoke the same sense of motion and energy found in Haas’s work.
