Photography Artist Reflection

Alberto Ghizzi Panizza

Specializes in macro photography, including detailed shots of water droplets on surfaces. This photographer creates photos of insects and water drops reflecting flowers in the back. The photograph displays a close-up view of a delicate green stem with water droplets that reflect tiny daisies. The background features a soft, blurred yellow circle, a flower stamen, which enhances the beauty of the droplets. This composition creates a magical and dream-like quality.

The droplets on the stem attract your eyes at first sight. Each droplet acts like a tiny lens, showcasing the beautiful flowers inside. The way the droplets are arranged along the stem guides your gaze, making them the most eye catching / star of the image.  I really like how the droplets reflect the flowers, creating a stunning visual effect. The colors are vibrant, and the contrast between the green stem and the bright background adds to the overall beauty. It feels like you’re looking into a tiny world within each droplet, dreamy and magical.

The photographer has used the rule of thirds effectively. The droplets are placed in a way that draws your eyes across the image creating leading lines, while the blurred background adds depth. This technique helps create balance and visual interest to the audience. The lighting is soft and natural, which enhances the colors of the flowers and the droplets. The theme of this photo is nature, so using soft and natural lightings are the best of all. The highlights on the droplets make them shine, giving the image a fresh and lively feeling. The gentle lighting also adds a dreamy quality to the photograph.

In this photograph, there are no people present. Instead, the focus is on nature and the delicate details of the water droplets. The absence of people allows the viewer to connect more deeply with the beauty of the natural elements. But I think if there were to be humans in this photograph, the human’s facial expressions are most sertainly readable. The might be people in the back that got reflected in the water droplets, or they might be behind the flower or on the side watching this beautiful scene.

The image showcases several formal elements like line, color, and texture. The vertical line of the stem creates a strong focal point, while the bright colors of the flowers and the droplets pop up against the soft background. The texture of the droplets adds a tactile quality, making them look almost 3D! The artist has used macro photography to capture intricate details that are often overlooked. By focusing closely on the droplets, he highlights the beauty of nature. The blurred background emphasizes the droplets, creating a feeling of intimacy and wonder. The camera is focused primarily on the droplets on the stem. This sharp focus contrasts beautifully with the soft background, drawing attention to the details in the droplets while creating a sense of depth in the image. The artist likely used a shallow depth of field to achieve this effect. A larger aperture would create a blurred background, allowing the droplets to stand out sharply. This technique helps to isolate the subject and makes it more prominent. The shutter speed is likely fast enough to prevent any motion blur, especially since the droplets are very clear. A speed of around 1/250th of a second or faster would help maintain the sharpness of the droplets while capturing the fine details (just a guess).

“Reflections of Time”

This photo captures an old man through the unique perspective of a door-shaped mirror. The background is colorful and bright outside the mirror, while the background in the mirror shows negative space also black colored. The old man’s face and front of his body becomes bright as he walks through the mirror into the real world filled with colors.

“Butterfly Dreams”

This title captures the whimsical nature of the butterfly-shaped mirror and the innocence of the baby, all while reflecting the beauty of the blue sky. The sky creates color contrast with the baby’s red hat, the focus is on the clouds and the blue sky in the mirror showing the desire of the sky. The shape of the mirror also indicates how the child has a big future and that she could fly freely.

“Life in the Rain”

This title evokes the sense of movement and activity outside, contrasted with the serene beauty of raindrops on glass. The reflections on the raindrops are really clear, circular, and colorful. The raindrops reflects the people walking by, really capturing the beauty of water reflections. The texture of the raidrops really makes the photo look more 3D. If you look at the photo from a far distance, the photo looks gloomy and foggy like a rainy day looked through the window with a sad vibe, but if you look at the photo close up you can see the colors on the raindrops creating contrast.

Vision and statement of intent

I will be working with water, mirrors, and nature material. My goal is to create photos of people, animal, and plants with the use of raindrops, puddles, and mirrors. I will be using a lot of props such as glass, mirrors, patterned acrylic, and sprey bottles to create my work. The theme of the photos will be the emotions of nature, and the message I want my audience to see is the emotions of the nature is colorful and different, different parts and color of nature and different angles of nature can reflect different emotions. To show this message, I will be taking photos of the same objects with different color and different angles reflecting to different emotions. I will be mainly using framing, balanced, negative space for my photos, and for the techniques I will be making sure I use IOS and shutter speed.

Mind map reflection

reflection – sets

This photo focuses on the water drops, demonstrating rain. The raindrops reflect the contour of the character, showing hundreds of faces. The face in the back is blurred, making the whole photo look gloomy and sad. But at the same time this way of taking the photo creates a scene of the character looking through a window that was just rained on.

This photo is tooken in the same way as the first one, this one is taken sideways. This photo also has weak lighting in the back making the whole scene look more sad, and with the facial expressions of the character making the photo full of stories. The colors used in this photo (background and shirt) is also working in concert. There is also more color on the right side of the character’s face.

Both of these photos looks more happy, the focuses are different though. The first photo focuses on the raindrops and the other photo focuses on the character’s face. The second photo shows depth of field, and both the photo’s show negative space.

This photo is edited into black and white, the black and white coloring shows heavy contrast in the lighting and the dark parts of the photo. The ice cubes reflects the character’s face in different angles, referring to the ice cubes. The hands on the platform shows works as a leading line towards the ice cup. The scene of this photograph is a person starring at the ice in a ice cup and the different levels shown with the character and the ice cup creates a scene of the character working hard to be tall enough to reach the ice cup.

This photo shows negative space, balance, depth of field, leading lines, and negative space. The platform creates a really strong color contrast with the background, the color of the character’s clothing is also dark which makes the photo as a whole look more balanced. The top of platform, side of platform, the character’s glasses, and the side of ice cup, all shows leading lines. Reflectons are shown both on the ice cup and cubes, and also on the top of the platform which creates a mirror-like effect.

This is the colored version of picture 5. The ice cubes reflect the character’s face, finishing the bottom half of the face. Negative space also shown.

Leading lines shown with the character’s hands, the look of the character’s eyes makes connections and tells the audience where to be looking at. The hands on the top of the water tank makes it seem like the character is looking from the top into the tank.

I chose this picture because of the focus and the eyesight. The photo is not balanced and the middle of the rule of thirds is not specifically shown in this photo of what it specifically is, but the picture really focuses on the details of the character’s face. Negative space is also shown in this photo. The fog ice created on the plastic cup brings texture to the photo, texture deconstrated with the help of the hair and the skin texture creating a realistic texture to the photo.

The character’s facial expression creates a serious and mysterious vibe, the weak lighting also brings the focus on the character’s face and his facial expressions. This picture shows the rule of thirds, the lighting focuses on the character’s nose and creates a bright spot and fades out in the dark. The

The mirror reflecting the trees and the sky makes a color contrast in green and blue, the mirror also creates a frame. And with the hint of red in the background, makes the photo more colorful.

The background is showing negative space. Because of the reflection, the color of the whole photo adds a hint of yellow, showing color contrast.

the starting point

Naoya Hatakeyama

Naoya Hatakeyama‘s photos are colorful and gloomy, his creations are all taken with reflection and with water concepts. Water concepts incloode puddles and rain. I really like how all his creations are all really colorful, the first picture is taken from the reflection of a water puddle after rain. The puddle reflects the light of different objects on the streets, street lights, signs, and even reflections from glasses can be caught in the puddle’s reflection. The second picture is taken with a glass, the glass has just been washed with rain. The rain drops on the glass creates multiple reflections of light and color from outside. Outside looks like a lake with cool strips of color in the sky.

Antonio Gutierrez Pereira

Antonio Gutierrez Pereira has a really creative and unique style in photography. A big unique way of his photo styles are the use of reflections. Unlike other photographers, his use of reflections are through glass and mirrors.

Both the two artists use reflections as a material to create their piece. The differences between these two artists is that they use reflections differently. They both use refelctions but their reflections are different. For example,  Naoya Hatakeyama uses reflection through glass and with water. Antonio Gutierrez Pereira’s photography takes pictures through glass filled with water, making the focus object in the back seem bigger.

initial thoughts

Reflection, as in casting back a light or heat, mirroring, or giving back or showing an image. My first thought of the word reflection is water and mirrors. Reflections can be shown in different ways such as water, glass, and mirrors. I’m interested in colorful and fun styles in photography, I really enjoy looking at deep photos and videos where the piece looks like it has a lot of stories. I enjoy taking pictures with materials like nature plants and colorful lights.

miniature figure

Tatsuya Tanaka uses everyday objects to take creative photos of the objects used in another way. Examples include using tiny figures of human, and placing them on our daily objects. The figures on the object makes the object look huge. This is a creative and unusual way of taking pictures, it creates a large size contrast between the figures and the objects. I like how Tatsuya Tanaka is super creative with his placements, all the people in his photos look busy.

Examples of Tatsuya Tanaka:

These are my top 5 photos taken by me:

Unedited:

Edited:

  1. The first photo is of a stone on a floating block of grass on water. I chose this photo to be one of my top fives because this photo shows color contrast and negative space, the water and the base of the water is black and reflecting. The block of grass and the base is on different levels and the color of the grass is also lighter. The character (rock with eyes) is a greyish white color, this can also atract the audience’s eyes at first sight. After editing, the photo had more light on the character (rock with eyes) and the color contrast is more shown.
  2. & 3. The second and third photo is also more of a nature-themed photo too. These photos has two characters in different color and I also placed different colored fake trees to create color contrast. There are two photos edited because I wanted to try different angles and they are croped differently. On the other hand, the first edited photo shows balance and depth of field with the background depth. The second photo shows rules of thirds and perspective. Both of the photos have a frame with the leafs, rocks and sticks creating a frame framing up the two characters.

4. The fourth picture is built with books as frames. Through the books on the bookshelf, theres this character’s livingroom. The character is doing yoga with the TV on and some snacks on the table. This photo contains framing and perspective. Looking through the books has this misterious feeling that the figure is actually alive and living inbetween books and bookshelfs. The edited version of this photo adds a tiny bit of lighting to the background making color contrast show. The focus on the figures are controlled and the figure has light on the surface.

5. This photo creates a movement shoot, the figure in located on a slope. The green, brown, and transparent blue colored pieces of plastic underneeth the figure is placed in a shape where it looks like the pieces are sliding down the slope and bringing the figure with it. This photo shows leading lines, negative space, and balance. To make this photo better, I edited the color darker and created a focus point on the figure. This increased the color contrast and the darkness of the background making it a darker contrast and a negative space.

6. The last photo is created with different material props. I used children buildable toy pieces and a piece of fabric to create a litttle house/tent like area for the two characters. This photo shows leading lines, symmetry and patterns, balance, and framing. The triangle walls have lines leading to the characters, this makes audience spot the characters at first sight. Also with the impact of the character’s placement is in the middle of the photo too. The frame of this photo is the space created for the characters. After editing, the colors look more balanced. The photo now has a better framing and the characters have better focus.

Favoirte photo:

This photo is my chosen favoirte, this is because this photo has great angles and this photo looks like a lot of story. The whole picture is filled with the scene made.
