Theme: Contrast Movement

The photography technique effectively uses contrast and movement to create a dramatic scene. The high contrast between the dark silhouettes of the trees and the lighter sky draws attention to the textures and shapes of the foliage. The black-and-white composition enhances this contrast, giving the trees a sharp, defined look against the softer, cloudy sky. The movement is remarkable, giving a sense of story of antique and horror movies.

Row 1:
Top Left – Market Scene: This picture illustrates a typical store which is stocked with sundry goods; and those include tea, herbs, or traditional remedies. The manager said that the shelves were filled and the shopkeeper seemed committed to work. This vivid and lively snapshot portrayals shows how a culture is alive when depicting the daily life of people. This scene seems to be for any period of time and this is due to the monochromatic color scheme chosen for this movie. People, customer and workers, are incessantly moving; this gives the impression that the place have many stories as well as customs.
Top Center – Doorway with Curtain: A small door of a passage, in a half-light, with a curtain dividing it from one side to another. The slim corridor and somber colors make this photo very mysterious and somewhat aggressive – it is as if those people are inviting to enter a different world. The message or warning is even inscribed on the small sign above which makes one jack up their curiosity. This could be a metaphor of a door, of change or of curiosity as to what is on the other side.
Top Right – Wooden Gate with Lanterns: This is still a quite typical inner space door that looks old and typical of a traditional architecture, there are wooden panels and lanterns on the sides indicating perhaps it is part of a historical construction which could be a temple or an old courtyard. The lighting gives deep shadowed effect, it increases the feeling of sacredness. The beauty of the gate is that the space behind it might be important in some ways, as if the gate is leading to another world with more history and tradition.
Row 2: Second Row, Left – Large Arched Door: A large columned gate on two fluted columns and a broad panel with studding could be part of a palace or any old building. On the one hand the man sitting at the base of the steps seems tiny compared to the size of the structure. Such contrast makes people think about the previous generations and how they could have passed through these doors Of course, the given examples are quite different, but they all set people thinking and develop associations with some grand architects.
Second Row, Center – Blurred Figure in Motion: A man is pictured while in movement, almost ethereal, slightly out of focus against a clear background. This I feel is different from the other pictures in that it has this sense of urgency or of something momentary. It could mean the passing of time, hurry up in life, or the souls of those once in the historic rooms. The blur gives the viewer weird and dreamy feeling about the fashion collection as if they belong to another world.
Second Row, Right – Man Walking Along Path: A solitary person is facing the camera with a big stone paved avenue with trees on both sides. It stills is quite contemplative in nature and nuiances of quite a scene of introspection and reflection. Some of the trees create a backdrop of the setting sun, extending shadows to lend depth on the picture. It looks like a smooth voyage, maybe reflective or individual in nature or at least the man’s trip.
Row 3: Third Row, Left – Temple Roof and Tree Branches: A steeped roof of a temple or shrine protrudes just barely from behind a curtain of foliage unveiling the relationship between structured society and nature. There is an architectural design on the roof; the curves are borrowed from the traditional architectural design and the leaves give the place a serene atmosphere. All these elements in their blend could wayline spirituality, nature or a rapport between monumental human architectures and nature.
Third Row, Center – Alleyway with Cyclist: The architecture of stone walls surrounding a narrow alley and a person making a bicycle ride which looks like a local inhabitant on his way through performing his activities. The environment is constricted and claustrophobic intent on minimizing movement with tall walls giving the location a enclosed feel. This could be the journey individuals make in a confined space – national, cultural or thought that is fully defined. The shadow of the cyclist also provides a second layer in the picture; one can see that the rider is alone but can afford to be so since he is.King.
Third Row, Right – Leaves Against Sky: Light is diffusing from the trees fractal patterns on the ground. They go from one city to another and with this you get natural and serene image which gives a great break in the midst of the images presented. Light and the leaves together convey the seemingly fragile and transient beauty, which is in fact characteristic both of the forest at large and of this selected fragment in particular. It also assumes the role of notifying us of life and reminding us of some of those more fleeting and less complex existences.
Row 4: Fourth Row, Left – Figure Walking in Urban Park: A number of persons strolling along a track in a park like environment with towering trees. The concern to the shades and additional natural light make the image look very calm and timeless so the figures seem to blend in the scenery. This look like an abstract of society and the feeling of togetherness yet everyone in their own world while in the photograph.
Fourth Row, Center – Street Market Scene: Two of these are two vendors or two locals talking to each other probably negotiating for prices or just chatting could be. There are a number of paintings in this scene depicted as being full of life and stressing the attitude of the people coming together. Described by darkness on their faces and squinted eyes and the black and white makes then to look like they belong to a different generation with a different era of photography.
Fourth Row, Right – Temple Courtyard in Late Afternoon: A traditional roof courtyard and trees with sunlight on the branches. The shadow that falls through the trees creates beautiful patterns on the floor: the whole thing feels quite ritualistic. This could be part of a contemplative or communion space with the natural environment as an adjunct to architecture.
Row 5: Fifth Row, Left – Traditional Pagoda Against Sky: A tall & erect pagoda with trees on both the sides and on the background is a glimpse of sky. The size and approach to the construction are used to draw attention to the imposing environments and as a representation of culture. The construction of Kalyani’s pagoda is a semi elliptical shape curve rising tier by tier and then culminating in a curved pinnacle that adds a comical feeling of a dream chaser or a place of worship.
Fifth Row, Center – Ducks on a Lake: Living at peace with one another: ducks gliding on water with small waves created. Such casual scene makes the overall feeling more diversified in comparison to a number of performances that are connected with cities and architecture. It’s mostly about the ducks that represent calmness and the reflection of the beauty of the relatively silent world.
Fifth Row, Right – Bird Soaring Above Lake: A bird in flight over water – at least, the bird is mid- jump. The bird standing all alone with the vast waters behind it again tells of liberty before continuing on with more grounded scenes. The simplicity of the shot in this case underlines the beauty of nature in transition thus a hint of freedom.
Row 6: Sixth Row, Left – Reflection of Building in Water: A building’s reflection on water surface, for example in a lake or a pond, and a blur effect is created by the water. This building appears slightly surreal, as if it were a memory or at the very least a vision, thanks to the abstract, painterly finish. The picture raises such themes as self-portrrayal or the lack thereof, amorphous identity or duality between the real world and fantasy.
Sixth Row, Center – Stone Building with Traditional Windows: Country Residence IDEA expanded into a stone construction with traditional patterned window looked through soft rays. The design is both utilitarian and artistic and not surprisingly its coarse surface imitates stone for added prehistoric flair. It appears to be a place where history was written, every grain of sand, every brick a testament of several unheard stories.
Sixth Row, Right – Traditional Archway with Sky Beyond: An exquisite handcrafted arch that surrounds a sky visible above it. The framing suggestions a condition of travel or transition – or of entering into a new space or stage/phase. The part of the sky that is beyond the arch could represent a liberty, opportunity or promise and the viewer is encouraged to look forward to.
