A revolution is certainly not a bed of charming roses. On the contrary, they are more like the stems of roses, growing unruly prickles and evoking thorny and uncomfortable feelings in people’s hearts. As the main character of today’s story Fidel Castro stated, a revolution is not a simple and pleasant process, and the path to a successful revolution is often filled with sacrifices, hardships, and setbacks.

This video emphasizes some of the most significant events of the Cuban Revolution and uses the Common Craft style to portray the events more clearly and humorously.

The Cuban Revolution was indeed a struggle between the future and the past. Peasants and workers were tired of the brutal dictator Fulgencio Batista and the inequalities, corruption, and lack of rights under his regime. On top of that, they had to endure the ongoing political instability. People lived under significant oppression and manipulation, and it was indeed Fidel Castro who finally stepped forward and ushered a change.

There have been challenges and failures throughout the revolution, and there are still skeptical voices questioning Castro’s actions and the revolution itself. Was Fidel Castro’s violent uprising worth it? Did his actions lead to a ‘better’ Cuba? Was he a dictator, or a hero?

Those questions cannot be easily answered, and politicians and modern historians still disagree over them. However, it is certain that Cuba would not be the same as it is today if it weren’t for the Cuban Revolution and Fidel Castro.
