Turning the back on home country (American Revolution Journal)

John Wilder, a British colonist who moved to America after the 7 years’ war due to the economic collapse in the Britain, was a proud English citizen. He was still proud to be one of the British, and followed the rules of the British parliament even when all his family and friends turned their back against the parliament. John just didn’t understand why these people would question why the parliament should rule over them, not until he had talked to this mysterious man in the Boston harbor. Which side would John who is full of pride stand for during the revolution?

Was the American revolution successful? It is a question that could be answered with different kind of answers depending on which perspective you would look at it. In the perspective of John, the character of this journal, American wasn’t as successful. John fought for freedom for everyone, and the balance of power, but the power imbalance still existed, and some people, such as women and slaves did not get the right of contributing in the country’s politics. At the end of the journal John is a bit disappointed with how the country was going, but he still values the revolution itself as it has resulted a new country that he now calls it a home country.

It was the END, but also the START

“Give me Liberty or Give me Death!” -Patrick Henry

The American Revolution, one of the most significant event in the global history, is an event that made a big turning point in the history globally, and has affected global politics a lot. United States of America is currently at the center of the global politics, and leads other nations in various ways as it is one of the most developed country among all nations. But, would you believe me if I told you that the United States was previously not an established nation?

During the early 1700s people living in America were people who came from Europe and was recognized as Europeans coming from different parts of Europe such as Britain, France, and Spain who moved to America to have a new starting point in their life. However, the British farmers wanted more land and started a war called the Seven Years War, which lead to getting more lands from France. But, this made British go through the worse economic point as they used all their money for the war. Therefore, they came up with the notion to tax the “British” in America. They considered it only fitting as they were a part of Britain. However, the fact that Americans were not even represented in the British Parliament made them Angry. Colonists started recognizing themselves separately from the British, and they at last began to yell, “Give me Liberty or Give me Death!”

It was the start of a new page in Global history.

“To money or not to money that is the question”

“How to Money”, a nonfiction book written by the ‘Her money’ team, is an informational book that guides young adults how to manage, save, and spend money well. This book does not have any narrative or storyline like any other non-fiction books, however the author still throws a clear message to the readers on the importance of money managing and it also teaches you how.

I focused on 3 main central idea+ Theme throughout reading this story, and the first central idea was: Money is more than just a physical tool, it is what controls your emotion and even your life. I discovered this idea because the author talked about the importance of managing money by emphasizing the true definition of Money. ⤵

On my second day of reading this book, the author was still focusing on the importance of managing money, but this time highlighting it with evidences from research sources. The central idea I found from this part of the book about researches and experiments was: Good money managing requires a lot of patience.

On the next notebook below⬇, I analyzed the central idea found from the notebook page above⬆ to prepare a town hall debate about it. I found different pages from the front part of the book, and wrote basic notes and headers for the reasoning parts.

The last notebook page, shown below↓, introduces my 3rd central idea, which was: Good education and Money has a very close relationship. I haven’t really stated it word to word in my notes, however I have visualized it by showing the connections of Learning about money and the other main sections of the book.

Thank you for reading my blog! I wouldn’t recommend reading this book as a Middle schooler like me because it is hard to make connections with yourself, and I won’t recommend this book especially when you’re focusing about writing techniques authors use in non-fiction texts, as it does not include a storyline or plot.

Am I a Renaissance Humanist?

Renaissance Humanist infographic 23.10.23 by Elin Kim [STUDENT]

In this project, we tried to express our understanding of the key concepts of humanists during the Renaissance period and connected ourselves with them by rating how much I could connect with the ideas. I really agreed with all the ideas since they are the ones that are still around, and I believe they are very important key ideas that have made modern times a better period. Therefore, I gave myself 95% as a humanist.

Conscience

This found poem is made based on the keywords in the story ‘Thank You M’am’ written by Langston Hughes. It has shown the internal conflict of the main character, “the boy”. One side of the boy is protagonist of how he thinks he should be thankful to the woman and should regret what he’ve done, but one side of him which is working as an antagonist doesn’t want to do it. At the end he doesn’t manage to say thank you and never sees the woman again. The beginning of the poem gives an understanding to the readers of how the internal conflict of the boy started.

My pet chair project

My biggest obstacle was, that I didn’t had much materials so I only had paper, tape, wood chopstick, and gluegun.

My biggest success was that I made the paper more strong by taping it.

One thing I would like to change is to make the chair more balanceable.
