Green

These images helped me explore a wide variety of shots, angles, and expressions. I looked for: strong emotional gestures (e.g., covering the face or leaning away), clear lighting and clean backgrounds, and repeated visual motifs like the green ball and stair railings. However, some of the Green photos lacked strong framing or emotional clarity. Others were too similar to each other or didn’t match the visual rhythm I was building.

Yellow

This selection narrowed down the strongest emotionally resonant images. I focused more on: narrative sequence, how the subject changes from frame to frame, balance of indoor vs. outdoor settings, and variety in pose and emotion. Still, some Yellow photos were slightly off in composition or were less essential when viewed as part of a group.

Red

These are the three images I chose for the final portrait series. I selected them because they form a cohesive visual story when placed side by side, each photo includes repetition (e.g., hands, framing, posture) while showing clear emotional shifts, the backgrounds (e.g., hallway, stairs) highlight the idea of transitioning between private and public emotional space, and technically, they have the best lighting, framing, and clarity. By limiting the set to three key images, I kept the visual message focused and clean, which helps the viewer better understand the emotional progression.

Inspiration & Influence:
The project was inspired by the idea of how teenagers navigate identity and emotion in public vs. private spaces. I was also influenced by cinematic portraiture that uses framing and repetition to show change over time. I used repetition (e.g., hands covering face) and visual motifs (e.g., the green ball, stair railings) to suggest cycles of emotional protection and exposure.

Technical Approach:
All images were taken in available light using a consistent camera setting to keep the mood natural and documentary-like. I edited them minimally to keep skin tones and environmental color accurate, allowing the narrative to stay grounded in realism.
