The Storming of Change

The French Revolution, which occurred from 1789 to 1799, had some significant effect on France and the world. The revolution brought profound continuities and changes. One continuity is a dictator rules France. Before the revolution, France was ruled by absolute monarchy, where the king held supreme power and authority. After the revolution, Napoleon Bonaparte came into power. He also had supreme power and control. Another continuity is culture was still crucial in France. For example, language, literature, art, and food persisted after the revolution. However, the French Revolution also brought some changes. The revolution marked the end of the monarchy and led to the rise of the First French Republic and later the Napoleonic Empire. Also, it made France more powerful militarily. One notable piece of evidence that proves this is the territory of France increased. These are some of the many continuities and changes of this great period.

The Dawn of A New Era

The video above is a video by Kevin Lu and me about the French Revolution, called “The Dawn of A New Era”. In this video, we talked about the causes of the revolution and key events. We explore moments such as the convening of the Estates General, The Tennis Court Oath, the Storming of the Bastille, The Great Fear, the Declaration of the Rights of Man, the First Constitution of France, the war against Austria, the Edict of Fraternity, execution of King Louis XVI, the Siege of Toulon, Reign of Terror, the Battle of the Pyramids, and the Constitution of the Year VIII. The revolution started because of food shortages, bankruptcy, political discontent, the influence of the American Revolution, Enlightenment Ideas, and social inequality. The revolution affected France by ending the Monarchy, spreading revolutionary ideas, and reducing the catholic church’s power. The French Revolution causes many political movements and revolutions worldwide.  Since this revolution had a worldwide effect, we name this video “The Dawn of A New Era”. Thank you for watching.

What Should I Add For My Title? Google It.

The Nonfiction book, Google It, by Anna Crowley Redding introduces the history of Google. It describes how the founders of Google, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, who were students at Stanford University, subversion the world.  Everything begins with an ordinary homework assignment. Larry was focusing on the World Wide Web for his doctoral thesis, and that led to the birth of BackRub, later known as Google. Then, Google improves and develops at a fast rate. In conclusion, it became a product that changed the world by making information organized, accessible, and useful.

On day 11, I learned in class when to reread and when to research. I focused on Google X on my notebook page because I found it interesting. I looked in the text from my book and went online to find additional information.

As you can see, I created a “Larry page” for Larry Page. This is a page that introduces Google’s founder Larry Page, and it also shows his character traits using text evidence.

A theme I came up with is: Persistence may not necessarily lead to success, however; giving up will definitely not lead to success. Here are some of my ideas.

One of the most important central ideas of Google It is: that Google is an epoch-making product. To show my thinking, I used multiple pieces of evidence to prove two small central ideas, which are: Google satisfies human needs, and Google solves global issues. I tied these two ideas together and saw how important Google is. Then, I came up with the big central idea. See my thoughts above!

This journey of visiting my notebook ends here. Thank you very much for reading my blog post and paying attention to my notebook page. I really recommend reading Google It by Anna Crowley Redding. It is a wonderful book and it includes numerous facts about Google that you don’t know. Also, remember that if you want to use Google, you can always search on Google Chrome for Google. Ha Ha.

How Humanist Am I ?

Humanism

Murderer or Hero

The poem below was taken from page 4 of the short story “Lather and Nothing Else” by Hernando Tellez. It shows the internal conflict of the barber the protagonist. I know the conflict is internal because the barber first had an idea and then had a different one that went against the first one and he struggles a bit. Struggling inside is a sign of internal conflict. In this case, the struggle is whether should he kill or not and he has to make the choice soon because his target is in his hand if he lets go there isn’t a second chance, so he has to choose. Also, during this conflict, there is no interaction with other characters, the environment, or the society, so it has to be an internal conflict. My poem first tells us the first idea the main character thought about, and then some questions he asks show he is worried about the first idea. Next, there is a new idea that supports the first idea again. So, it shows he’s struggling inside him. There are three pictures involved in my poem. One is angel versus devil, which shows the internal conflict, kill or not kill. Another one represents kill and the picture is a knife with blood on it. The last one is the normal barber knife, which represents not killing. I also included color as well. My poem is just like a conversation between the devil and an angel. Red represents the devil speaking, and yellow represents the angel speaking. The devil tries to convince the barber to murder Captain Torres, but the angel tries to convince the main character that he shouldn’t kill him. I colored the words based on this, not on hero stuff is said by the angel, and the murderer stuff is said by the devil. I don’t look at murder and a hero like this in this story. Murderers and heroes in this story, you can’t just say one bad one good because murderers in this story could mean you killed someone and it is horrible, it could also be you did it for justice On the other hand hero could mean you did it for the people and your great, it could also be a feeling that you want which leads you to murder someone. That’s why I colored the murderer and hero orange, it’s in the middle of the angel and devil.
