Viva la Revolución: Mexico’s Struggle for Liberty and freedom

Caption: This cartoon shows really well how unstable Mexico was at the time. You see all the leaders being thrown in and then out of power, and all the chaos of people fighting to be the next one for the short ride.

 

 

 

 

The Mexican Revolution was a bitter struggle for freedom. It started with Porfirio Diaz. A cruel dictator who used his military to control his people.  Naturally, the people were outraged. Then, Madero came along. He challenged Diaz in one of his rigged elections and lost ( obviously). Diaz had Madero imprisoned,  and inside prison,  Madero wrote the plan of San Luis Potosi. ( there were a lot of these kinds of plans)The next few years went by in a blur. Madero was assassinated by Huerta, who was such a terrible leader that all of the other revolutionaries ganged up on him and his allies. After Huerta came a power struggle. Carranza declared himself president and got Obregon to be his general. Villa didn’t like that, and soon we had a war with Obregon against Villa, 2 of the best military minds at the time.  After Obregon won the war, Carranza officially became president and was then assassinated. That left Obregon, who finally made the correct changes to the country that left everyone happy. Except for that guy Zapata. He didn’t really do much and was ambushed and killed later. Here is how I got to my rating for each one:

Individualism: I think that it’s an OK belief, since it strives for balance, but focusing on your personal dignity and growing is not something I’m the best at

Education: During the Renaissance times, this will be less of a score, since it was all about learning Greek and Latin through ancient texts, but I feel like now, in modern times, this just means going to school and getting an education, which I hope we all agree with.

Balance: I agree with this a lot, but not too much, since I don’t have a permanant belief in religion. However, I believe that There should be a balance between, if you beleive in He/Her, God and your everyday life. So I beleive in it, but since im not too religious, i can’t give a score that high.

Greek and Roman culture: I feel this is not very usefull. Nowadays, Greek and Roman stuff isn’t as highly valued or as important, so i don’t agree with this as much as in the past.

Question everything: I do this well, not everything, but a lot of thing. However, I’m not willing to go down and acually study too deep into things, since I’m too lazy to acually do that. But, I try to study as deep as my lazy brain allows me, which is quite shallow, but i still to it.

Lamb to the Slaughter found poem

As a forward note, I was never good at writing poems. so this probably not be the best one you wrote.

 

The story I chose was “Lamb to the Slaughter”, By Roald Dahl. It is a story about a woman named Mary Maloney, who has just killed her husband. The story tells about how she outsmarts the policemen and tricks them into thinking that she’s innocent and leaving no trace of her involvement.  The main conflict that I chose to use is a Person versus Self conflict, which changes into a Person versus Person, as she kills him.

I chose to highlight some of the phrases that could be easily connected to other words from different sentences. I paired this with some negative adjectives, and now I have my words. I made my poem in chronological order so that the words actually come from their place in the text. This, at least personally, to me, makes the poem flow a bit better. I didn’t know what to add after that. So, I found words that made the poem, at least to me, more dramatic for better appeal. Finally, I made it a simple black and white background, because I didn’t want the background to take away the reader’s attention to the poem.  This is how I got to my poem. I chose this book because I had read it before, and was already fimiliar with the conflict and didn’t have to read again it to find it out.
