The American Revolution, also known as the Revolutionary War was the first huge stepping stone towards America as we know it today. Thinking about America in the current time, the country is often considered to be a place of diversity, freedom, and rights in our present world. If you were to say this to someone living just three centuries ago, they would have been taken aback in shock over how America has developed into a sophisticated, independent nation. The American Revolution was an important time in American history where Americans gained independence from being under the British rule for over a hundred years. However; in the beginning, the colonists truly believed that they were British citizens, and didn’t know any less. Revolutions are mainly caused by unhappy uprisings of people, and the Americans did just that. Sooner or later they became dissatisfied with the British rule, believing that the British government was taxing them a ton because of the British debt, and they just wanted more land. As the war progressed, the Americans decided they wanted out from the British powers, who were constantly taxing them. Key figures such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson wanted all of their self proclaimed rightful land back and newfound independence. We now know these years of fighting for liberty as the American Revolution.
