Statement of Intent – Street Photography

Humanity in Action

The purpose of my triptych is to address the wonder of humans in their everyday lives. Humans are all different and are the epitome of an honest reality. I want my audience to be able to view these people going about their lives and get a glimpse of the different emotions that people feel when faced with reality. I want people to recognise that these people in their own lives are beautiful. I want people to have a sense of understanding and reflect on humanity for a split second when they look at my presentation. For inspiration, I will try to find a photographer who captures people and explores realism. I want to try and find photographs that explore a sharper focus with contrast in the elements of the photo. I believe that humans are unique and we should try to understand and appreciate the people in this world. Learning to understand or trying to understand other people’s lives can make us better people.

This was my statement of intent from the Abstract unit. Originally, I wanted to simply capture humanity in action; however, now, I want to delve further into body movements and how people’s specific movements and tendencies can portray a certain emotion or evoke a different mood. This could be from a more up-close perspective and angle, or from farther away, where the subject remains the main focus.

Revised Statement of Intent:

The purpose of my triptych is to address the wonder of humans in their everyday lives. Humans are all different and are the epitome of an honest reality. I want my audience to be able to view these people going about their lives and get a glimpse of the different emotions that people feel when faced with reality. These emotions can be seen in both facial expressions and specific movements. I want people to recognise that these people in their own lives are beautiful. I want people to have a sense of understanding and reflect on humanity for a split second when they look at my presentation. For inspiration, I will try to find a photographer who captures people and explores realism. I want to try and find photographs that explore a sharper focus with contrasting lighting and shadows throughout the elements of the photo. I also want to experiment with movement and changing shutter speeds when capturing movement. I believe that humans are unique, and we should try to understand and appreciate the people in this world. Learning to understand or trying to understand other people’s lives can make us better people.

This mood board is a little bit of my take on street photography where the photographer is ultimately telling a story that no one else bothered to tell – but from afar.
