Tests for Portraiture – Week of November 16

In these photographs, I was trying to capture the natural golden hour lighting with Amira as the subject. The lighting cast beautifully through her hair, but not on her face which made the photos slightly underwhelming. Also, my phone’s mirror on the case was reflecting a weird shape onto Amira’s face when I was trying to capture the photo which looks interesting in retrospect but I didn’t appreciate in the moment.

These photos were captured on a cruise in Shanghai overlooking the Pearl Tower. The red lighting from the boat lights lit the scene nicely which made the image more appealing as well.

In these photos, Amira was sitting sideways with the sun shining on her face harshly which inclined me to take the photos as she read. The sun also cast light through her hair making it appear as a gold-ish brown in the final image.

In these photos, I experimented with natural lighting with my friend, Amira, at golden hour. The location and lighting of the sun at the time allowed the shadow of the leaf to be cast on Amira’s face, creating a beautiful light and shadow contrast between the elements in the photo.

With my sister, Alena, I experimented with using red light and a mirror to capture her face close up where she was looking away and also her looking at me in the reflection. Sometimes I would move my hand, creating the blur effect that appears to be so interesting the final product.
