This poem that I made above me represents the story of “The bass, the river, and Sheila Mant”, by W. D Wetherell.
This story is a sad one with multiple internal conflicts. Where our protagonist has a hobby and deeply enjoys fishing. But that summer, was the summer where he enjoyed something else. He thought that Sheila Mant was the most loveliest creature in the world. But while he was on a boat ride with her on a river, he caught the biggest bass he had ever caught. It was beautiful and humongous. The protagonist is smitten with Sheila, but as well as smitten with the bass he caught. It is normal to always make tough choices in life, and to be sure to always make the right one.
Tough choices are always hard to deal with. Our protagonist has a big problem in trying to come up with the right one, and he ends up choosing Sheila as he sadly lets the fish go. To this day, the memory of the fish still haunts him.
Our protagonist thinks Sheila is beautiful; “The moon was out now. It was low and full enough that its beam shone directly on Sheila there ahead of me in the canoe, washing her in a creamy, luminous glow.” (Wetherell 4)
The main lesson of this story is to try and make the right choice. Our main protagonist just happened to make the wrong one by pretending to be someone he is not. All so he could get the girl of his dreams. My poem shows the concept of this story, because I mainly chose the words that stand out. Words that swirl around me, telling a story. I chose the few words that tell the story in a shorter way. I tried my very best to have my words show the conflict.
I chose my artwork from a reliable artist because the art represents a boat on the lake. I can see small goldfish and bass surrounding the canoe as two people are slowly drifting off. As you can see, I have lips and different things that represent love to show the genre of this story as romance. Our protagonist thinks he loves the girl and tries to get her to notice him. I decided to choose a layout that’s sort of a collage-like piece to show his internal problems and how different thoughts are just circling him. He’s smitten with both Sheila and the bass. Which is why I have little love representations following the boat as well as the fish swimming around it.
