In W.D. Wetherell’s “The Bass, The River and Sheila Mant” on pages 4-5, The internal conflict – character vs. self – happens when the protagonist is forced to make a tough decision between catching the bass of his life or looking cool in the eyes of Sheila Mant. The conflict is resolved when he – the protagonist – chooses to cut the fishing line and release the bass. The protagonist has regretted his decision ever since.
