World Without Fish

The book I have read and written notes about is a book called World Without Fish written by Mark Kurlansky and illustrated by Frank Stockton. This book is about what life would be like without fish and how to prevent that from happening. A summary of this book is: This book is mainly about how humans are hurting animal life through climate change, pollution, overfishing, and population control. At the same time, this book is also about how we as humans can avoid the extinction of animals and help the environment around us. Two central ideas in this book are unstable populations and trifecta these are the central ideas because they are repeated multiple times throughout the book with the use of motifs.

      Am I A Humanist Project

In my am I a humanist infographic  I wrote about five subjects that could make me a humanist. The first subject is secularism. Secularism is when people want to be separated from the church, most humanists are religious but want secularism because the church spreads falsities to the people. Personally, I am not a massive fan of secularism but I see why people would like to be in secularism so my rating for secularism and my understanding is a 3 out of 5. My next point to see how I could be a humanist is that humanists think that every person has value. When they say people have value they mean that people should not suffer all their lives on earth just to wait to be in heaven but that they can enjoy the time spent on earth. I really like how even though we know it is going to be a glorious day when we go to heaven that we can spend time and prosper on earth. My rating for everyone has value is a 5/5 because I completely agree with this. The following section is all about how people can be different and good. I will now be talking about individualism. Individualism is a form of showing not only yourself but others that you are a separate individual from everyone else. This word shows that being different is one key essential of being human and that we all should have dignity. Somehow I have a strong connection to this word because it empowers me to be unique but still thinks of others as equal. Just because you are different does not mean you are better. This is why the rating individualism forme is a 5/5 because I love it and I completely agree with this fact. Finally, my last point on why I could be a humanist is that all humanists believe that they should be educated. When they say being educated they are talking about being educated in poetry, moral philosophy, and grammar as well as ancient authors. They learned these things to be better known with the arts. People in the renaissance were fascinated by the arts and loved to be told truth/wisdom. Being educated was an important part of the people so when the church told lies the humanists stood firm for the sake of the people. The church hated when people called them wrong so they executed the humanists. I love the idea of being educated but in this sense even if I’m being taught wrong then to go against the church. Being educated is one of the top reasons why humanists wanted secularism. I understand the thought of being educated but I will give it a 2. I will give it a 2 because I would not ever want to go against the church.

June Eyes

This is my found poem that was taken from The Tuesday before June page 5 paragraph 26-37. This story was made by Norma Fox Mazer. In this story we see External Conflict because the protagonist fights an antagonist. The protagonist is a girl named June and the Antagonist is another girl named June. The antagonist picks on the protagonist calling her means names like fish eyes or she punches her.  In my found poem I drew a fish with big eyes signifying the name she was called when she was bullied.

“Keven Eyes”

The real name of this story is The Tuesday before June by Norma Fox Mazer

We see a baby fish getting bullied. The sharks are telling the fish named Keven that he is stupid and he has big eyes. Keven is very sensitive when people mention about his eyes. Keven is usually always a happy goldfish but when he is with the sharks he starts frowning. The sharks do not only bully Keven mentally they bully him physically, they put their fins around him so they can pinch him and they put their fins into a ball and punch Keven. Keven is left with bruises but tells Momma Goldfish that he tripped on the coral. Keven is depressed and thinks that there are only two good days of the week. The only two good days are when Keven is with Momma Goldfish. One day Keven arrived home with another bruise and told Momma yet another lie but Momma did not believe it this time so she went to town hall to talk about bullies. Then Mayor Salmon made a law that all bullies will be kicked out of the reef. The next day the sharks went up to Keven and suspected he had something to do with the new law so they beat him up, but without knowing Momma Goldfish was hiding behind coral. Momma Goldfish had enough evidence to get them kicked out of the reef but she told them that if they bully him one more time she would kick them out of the reef. So from that day forward the sharks never bothered Keven and Keven learned that everyday can be the best day for a little Goldfish.
