“Google It” notebook page

Google It, by Anna Crowley Redding, is a motivating and enjoyable book about the history of Google and the astonishing Ph.D. project by Larry Page and Sergey Brin. As two college students, their goal to organize the World Wide Web had a tremendous impact on the world. Through interesting storytelling, the book talks about the origins of Google, the origin of its founders, and the revolutionary effect of their innovations. From the creation of the PageRank algorithm (Backrub) to the introduction of revolutionary services, Google’s influence on the world is significant. I want to present my book club notes from my notebook that I have taken while reading and discussing with others.

Initially, I didn’t care much about taking notes, and the first day we only planned how much we read every day so we were all on track. At the same time, we read a story called Hidden Figures together as a class.

we started off with exploring claims, which we started to make a claim about our book to present, the claim we got was “the google founders made the right choice to pause school and pursue their dreams.”

claim presentation notebook page. I also took some notes on other groups presentations.

After learning about central ideas, we learned descriptive passages, how word choices, images and details can affect, which we watched a video and took notes.

Than we learned rereading and researching, where I also got some good quotes after rereading. I started to get better on notebooking.

Cause and effects are common in many books, so I made this spider web thingy to explain how Google was invented.

In the end, I was confused about google and Alphabets relationship, so I researched and made this map.

American Revolution*eagle sound effect

  1. What Defines an American Patriot? - Horry County Democratic Party

Did you know that America was once ruled by the British?

This is a blog to present our video project, a common craft video about the American Revolution.

The American revolution was an overthrow of the British government by the unhappy colonists. The government started to tax the colonies due to the loss from wars. However, The colonists were unhappy and started to uprise. After many wars and two continental congresses, the 13 colonies became the United States America, and after the Yorktown, Britain officially surrendered.

R u a humanist?

(Are you a humanist?)

Think about each element of humanism and think how much you agree with each element.

My personal rating:

1. Dignity: 5/5

2.Education:5/5

3. Scientific reasoning:4/5

4.Justice:5/5

5. Greek and Roman culture:4/5

I am a 80% humanist because I agree with many of the points that humanists believe. First, humanists believe in individualism, Which means everyone is unique and should be treated with passion and respect. I agree with this point due to the fact that how you treat others is the way that how others treat you, so if you wanted to be treated well, you’ll need to respect other people. In addition, everyone is unique, just like the renaissance paintings, everyone is drawn differently, not one of them is same to another. Just like in real life, everyone is different, not one is the same. Second point is secularism, Religion should be seperated with government. If religion becomes government, they would make weird decisions. For example, the crusades (a war that was started by the catholic to fight over a land). Also, religion limits freedom, religions have many rules that is difficult to follow. However, I do not really agree with the point to question everything and using critical thinking and scientific reasoning for everything. This point ignores the emotional and institutional view.

A 8 grader’s Cool Found Poem

A found poem is a poem created with words and phrases picked out from texts of books, most found poems theme is based on the story’s theme.

In class, we learned found poems, using the short stories we had, created our own. I chose the short story “Fan Club” by Rona Maynard. I picked out words and paste them onto this Canva poster.

The conflict of this story is person to person, and person to self.  Person to Person- the main character and her friend are facing bullies. the main conflict in the story is Person to self-conflict- the main character Laura(protagonist) is conflicted whether she should be an upstander or a bystander when her “sloppy” friend Rachel(antagonist) got bullied.

My poem connects to the story because Laura is a coward towards the bullies, she is afraid of them, and when the bullies talk about someone, she would think they are discussing her, but after all, the bullies were only after Rachel. My poem shows how she was afraid of the bullies.

I chose this background because in the story, it describes the day as gloomy, so I found this gloomy school hallway to match the story. I used the fonts because some of them just match the meaning of the word.

Our not really success cardboard arcade game

what we were unsuccess was first we were going to make a bowling and the bowling pins has strings on them so when I pull it, they all can stand up. but the string is too rough so it always get stuck so we started using fishing string, but again, it can’t stand properly so the person I am working with, he changed it into a pinball game which is worst.

the strategy I learned was to have a backup arcade game because the sad story I just mentioned.

one advice I will give to the future students is do not make a game that looks easy which is actually hard, think before you act.
