Abstract photography can be defined as capturing images in which the subject isn’t the most interesting element. Albert Renger-Patzsch and Aaron Siskind photographed the ordinary to reveal their beauty. Uta Barth reversed the typical use of the camera, shooting out of focus and Andreas Gursky photographs the repetition of elements. During this unit, you will investigate appropriate examples of abstract photography and respond in your own way.
In the first sentence, the definition of abstract photography refers to “abstract photography can be defined as capturing images in which the subject isn’t the most interesting element”. My initial thoughts about the concept of abstraction are something simple and broad. I think that abstract photography refers to the same thing, taking photos without a specific subject (making it less interesting) and using other textures and patterns to portray a message.
My definition of abstract photography:
Abstract photography is a genre of photography that captures simple ideas, rather than traditional thinking of having a subject. It can be taken by having different shapes, lines, or textures in the photo, unlike traditional photography, with a subject and background. Abstract photography is futuristic, as the photos create a different, new world, unlike the physical world we live in. The images portray different items that people wouldn’t see in daily life.
