Originally, I wanted to customize my lamp to things I love and my name. On the top, I put a rose because I think they are very beautiful and classical. On the left and right side, I put cat pictures because I love cats and they are my favorite animal. On one side, I have a cat reaching for a butterfly since I think cats are very graceful and cute. On the other side, I have a girl reading a book and having a cat in her lap. It represents me in the future since I love reading and I really want a cat in the future. On the front and back sides, I have text. On the front side, I have my name carved, since I want everyone to know this is my lamp and no one will be able to take it. On the back side, I have an inspiring quote since I think quotes can really help people, especially if they are stressed. Because I was new to Fusion 360, I tried to do simple designs so that I could get things done quickly and smoothy. Although my designs were easy, I still struggled a lot since when I was online, I wasn’t very productive and wasted a lot of time. However, when I came back to school, I tried to use my time wisely and get everything done.

Some of the easy tools to use were the shapes that were already given on Fusion and the tool to upload photos into Fusion. It helped me since I could trace the photos and make them look more realistic. I really liked this since I am a big perfectionist and this tool really help me to make everything look like how I wanted it to. I did encounter many challenges, I didn’t know you could make different sketches and at the start I had 9 different sketches with different things. It was a bit challenging keep on editing different sketches, saving everything and moving everything to one sketch. After I was able to accomplish this, everything was going pretty smoothly and I was even able to get my lamp in wood until I saw a big problem. I wanted my lamp in 5mm but my fingers on my lamp were design for 3mm but I had already carved it in wood. I wanted my lamp to look perfect and I did fix this problem on Fusion so that my fingers were all 2 mm longer. This was a minor problem that I still feel guilty about since I already carved it in wood but didn’t see this mistake.

For future students that are taking product design: tips to be successful in design are to listen to class carefully and follow the instructions on DX or from teachers so that you can get your work done correctly. Be sure to download lightburn and fusion ahead of time so that you have more time to design and create things you like. Also, a very important tip is to frequently restart your computer since it helps you have less lag in fusion since it takes up a lot of space on your computer. If I were going to go back to when I just started fusion, I would definitely change my attitude and my patience. I got too excited at the start and skipped a couple of steps while trying to work fusion for the first time. As I got into some trouble with Fusion, I started to want to give up and I started to lose hope on my work. However, I saw how much time and effort Ms. Kim was putting into these classes and I got more hope to accomplish what I wanted to. I enjoyed the options of either doing a lamp or a phone holder but I feel in the future, there should more videos online or teachers that know fusion well to come into the class since nearly everyone was new to fusion at the start.

For the brainstorming part, we thought of a couple of different ideas. One was to make a utensil that can get the core of a fruit like an apple out of the apple so that when you eat the fruit, you don’t need to worry about eating around the core. Another utensil we thought of was for people who liked to snack on things but don’t want their hands dirty since they might be working. We thought of a chopstick like utensil that you can clip on your fingers and you can use the chopsticks to pick up the food. The chopsticks would substitute your fingers so that you don’t get them dirty. Another idea was for burritos and how there is sauce/filling that might fall out. You can put the burrito in the utensil holder and then, the holder will hold the sauce/filling that might fall out. A final idea is for cutting cake and keeping everything clean and easy to do. The utensil is triangular and can bend into what every type of triangle you want. You can put the utensil in the cake and hold the utensil to get the slice of cake out of the utensil and put it on a place.

For the feedback part, we use some of the feedback and added it to our utensils. A person suggested to use more diagrams/drawings so we added different views of the utensil that we were using. Also, another person suggested to be more specific with our ideas like describing what material it is made of. So on the diagram/drawing, we added more annotations describing what the utensil is like and how it is used. Another person suggested to think of a more interesting name for the utensil. So, we tried to think of a name for the utensil that could maybe get people to be more interested to understand what it is.

For the strengths and weaknesses part, the utensil is made with plastic and is bendable so you can push the burrito up if you want when you eat to the end. There is also a push pop at the bottom of the utensil for pushing the burrito as you eat. Because some people might not want to use the push pop, there is the second option of just pushing the burrito up using the utensil. You can take the push pop out of the utensil and there is a plug to fill the hole at the bottom. There are different options in using the utensil so you can find the one right for you. The strengths of the utensil is that it is very easy to push the burrito to the place you that you can easily eat it but because it is easy to push the burrito, it is made of a material that isn’t very sturdy. It might wobble and may not be very sturdy as you put the burrito since it might weigh much more.

My biggest success was decorating the cardboard box. I got a lot of glue on my fingers because it took a long time finding the right pieces to glue onto the cardboard box. One concern that was shared with me was that the magnets were very strong and when the fishing rod got stuck onto one of the fish, the magnet got stuck on the wrong side and ripped the paper. Overall, I think this product was successful because a lot of the 4th graders came to our game and they enjoyed it!:)
