Artist Study – dino_illu

This is an illustration by dino_illu on instagram. Immediately looking at the image, your eyes are drawn to the character’s eyes, then hair, the rest of body. This is due to the amount of detail in the image. Dino rendered the character’s face and hair in more detail than the dress.

Dino also uses light to guide the viewer’s eye. Our eyes are drawn to the bright purple color of the characters eyes and the lighting there – not the shadows, where rendering is less detailed.

While painters have to worry about what to put on the canvas, photographers look more on what they can take out. Photographs can capture a scene in all of it’s detail, but detail is not always good. By intentionally drawing the viewer’s eye towards certain elements of the art, both painters and photographers can convey their message more effectively.

Parts of analysis were inspired by this youtube video doing an artist study on dino_illu. https://youtu.be/GRiKloB8_pI?si=Zwy9RWY0e6L1eJAx
