"I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious" - Albert Einstein

Statement of intent- Blog post 8

With the title Decay and Abstraction: Capturing the Essence of Time, I convey decay’s beauty and time’s passage in urban/natural spaces—focusing on weathered surfaces to spark reflection on transience. I hope viewers feel mystery, find beauty in imperfection, and contemplate time’s fleetingness. Inspired by Aaron Siskind’s abstract decay photos, I aim to turn decay into art; ultimately, I want others to see decay’s beauty and its worth.

Formal Elements of Photography

DEFINITION- Blog 4

Abstract photography is a unique way for photographers to show their personal views. Each artist brings their perspective to what they see through their eyes and camera, which means no two abstract photos look the same. Since it captures moments that won’t happen again, every photo is one-of-a-kind. Through these images, audiences can understand what the photographer is feeling and the message they aim to convey, inviting them to interpret the artwork in their own way.

Starting point- Blog 3

Abstract photography can be defined as capturing images in which the subject isn’t the most interesting element. Albert Renger-Patzsch and Aaron Siskind photographed the ordinary to reveal their beauty. Uta Barth reversed the typical use of the camera, shooting out of focus and Andreas Gursky photographs the repetition of elements. During this unit, you will investigate appropriate examples of abstract photography and respond in your own way.
