The short story I used to make my poem is called 《Lather and Nothing Else》by Hernando Téllez
The conflict within the story contains both internal and external, focusing on internal conflict. The conflict arises when the protagonist barber is given an opportunity to kill Captain Torres, the antagonist. An officer who is responsible for the death of numerous rebels. Also his enemy. In the end, the barber couldn’t bring himself to cross his moral line and commit a cold-blooded murder.
My poem is also closely linked to this internal conflict. The protagonist is conflicted about whether to kill the antagonist or not. The way I worded my poem shows how the protagonist is questioning their own humanity. Is it right to murder a murderer? I also left an open end to leave the readers wondering the same question. For a few lines, I only used adjectives to show the mental as well as physical state of the protagonist. None of the adjectives are necessarily commendatory terms, displaying the difficult decision ahead of the protagonist.
My illustration also tries to describe the conflict between humanity. Good and evil, right and wrong, angel and devil. I put the angel and devil on different areas on my paper and bold opposite colors to present a clear image of conflict.
