I chose Uta Barth. One of her characteristics is that first, she usually takes picture with blurred, out-focused effects. So in her pictures, we cannot see the parallel lines and definite shapes commonly. Second, instead of stiff lines, she creates wave by the lines in her photography. Third, by giving the change to focus, it makes her photo as an abstract photography. Fourth, Her tone is mostly bright, but in some photos, the darkness makes the photo antique-looking. Fifth, the shape shown in her works are generally round and smooth.Similar to the style of John Baldassari’s WRONG, I like Uta Barth’s style as she shows her work with her own different perspective of the ordinary scene. Blurring the focus causes the simple element into some creative result. I’d like to adapt her style and take a picture that makes people to think about the message of the photography. I was also inspired by her work as I kept thinking about the idea of it.
I selected this image in particular because of the mood it shows to me. I was surprised by the fact that the blurred picture can be beautiful while watching Uta Barth’s picture. I think the most important element in this picture is focus. Using the out-focus for taking this picture is the precise way to abstract people. Moreover, the effect causes people to feel warm in the photography. I also think that tone is another important element in this picture. The component that composes this photography is the slightly dark tone and warm, reddish shade. These features are why I chose this photo.
