“Shackles from the Deep” by Michael Cottman. explores the mystery and story of a slave ship that got destroyed on the way to drop off the kidnapped Africans from Barbados & Jamaica. Michael dives underwater to learn more about how the Africans were treated unfairly, furthermore, Michael not only discovers about the slave trade but also shares how slavery impacts individuals & different communities. I only enjoyed parts of the book but I recommended this book to anyone interested in the history of slavery & slave trades
The first central idea I came across in my book was: The importance of the history of the slave and how the slave trade impacted the lives of different individuals.
As i continued to re-read different part of the book, i saw so many examples of Racism through slave trade & how horribly the Africans were treated. it made me feel the wickedness of human nature, because some people don’t care about others for their own good life, i realized racism still exists in the world today , what’s worse, as i kepr reading I came across the slave trade still continues today. for example. human trafficking is still common in Libya. Although, Libya doesn’t have Africans it is still considered slave trade.
