The book Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand is about the life of Louie Zamperini, an airman from World War Two. Unbroken shows how Louie went from an olympian to an airman to a castaway to a captive in a Japanese POW camp.

Summary: Louis Zamperini became an airman in World War Two. After the plane he was in crashed, he found himself on a raft in the sea with two other survivors and eventually drifted to the Marshall Islands then faced some of the worst moments of his life.

A central idea is that the POWs were treated very badly at the POW camps by the Japanese. On page 149, it said that the prisoners were beaten for nearly anything. A theme of this book is that you should try to forgive people instead of trying to get revenge. On page 256, Louie decided to kill the Bird and on page 263, Louie had changed due to lots of drinking and his anger towards the Bird. On page 273, when he found out that the Bird was believed to be dead, Louie felt compassion towards him and his captors and forgave them for everything and found peace because of it.

The first page was made at the beginning of the book. Students had to write down what they thought was a big idea in the book.

The second page was about any central ideas students found while reading the book. The central ideas did not have to be from a specific part of the book.

The third page is similar to the second, except it focuses onĀ  themes instead of central ideas. Like the second page, the themes did not have to come from a specific part of the book.

On the fourth page, there are a few examples of informative and narrative text from the book. It shows that the book uses both to add facts and show what Louie was feeling or thinking during that time.
