Myself as a Learner – Hyeonseong

Today I will introduce a book that is full of suspense, called “Flowers in the Gutter” by K.D. Gaddy. The Flower of Gutter shows Germany from 1932 to 2019, starting after the end of World War I, going through World War II, and ending with a modern days. This book shows Gertrude, Jean, and Fritz’s different perspectives on the Nazis.I enjoyed reading the different backstory and views of the three characters and the process of them revolting against the Nazis.

The first central idea I found in my book is, “War makes the lives of citizens worse, more frightening, and it destroys them.” Reading the book, I felt that the author kept trying to show our readers the cruel and miserable side of the war.

The second central idea I found is, “Even teenagers didn’t have freedom in Nazi-Germany.” This is an important idea because this is the reason why the three main characters revolted against Nazis. In addition, the author seemed to have made readers think so, by continuing to feature children who lost their freedom and acted as the Nazis said in the book.

My third notebook page shows other central ideas I found in my book as I continued to read. The central idea “Corrupted government/society will make teenagers to rebel” is related to my first central idea because they both show us the life of teenagers in Nazi-Germany.

My last page shows the impact of Hitler. With Hitler in power, World War II, lack of freedom, economic depression, poverty, discrimination against Jews, etc.

When you blog you create posts and posts are categorised according to your subject. Some categories have already been set up for you. If you need more categories you can add them as needed. It’s important that your posts have the following:

An engaging title – this should not include the name of the subject since this is referenced in the category.
Body – this is where you share your learning. This can include text, images, embedded videos from Dragons’ Tube or elsewhere. You should always consider how your post looks to your audience. Is it engaging? Do they want to keep reading?
Category – select one that has been set for you or add a new category. Posts can have more than one category e.g. Humanities and Myself as a Learner
