Introduction,

Unbroken, By Laura Hillenbrand, is an action-packed story about a real life hero, Louise Zamperini who was a war veteran and was also qualified for the Olympics. Growing up as child, he was a troublemaker, often stealing other peoples possessions just for fun, although he had a bad childhood, he became a hometown hero for the things he did. Going from being on top of the world by qualifying for the Olympics to being drafted to the war, he has been through it all.

This book tells the story of Louise’s problems as someone in the army during ww2. The story goes through his early life and how he became who he was. It goes into depth on what happened when he was a prisoner of war (POW), how him and the people on his plane were stranded for 47 days.

  1. Central Idea- For this page I wrote about the central ideas of the book. I thought that the Author was trying to show us the hard times and what other problems soldiers can go through during war. The story shows the side of war where people are captured and put in terrible conditions.
  2. Perspectives- This page was for a debate. My groups perspective was that “People should take action for their responsibilities.” The book shows how different characters redeemed their mistakes by helping people around them or contributing to other things even on their last days.
  3. Theme- I wrote that the themes of the book are being resilient and forgiving others. Throughout the book, the author shows how Louie never gave up no matter what challenge he was facing, one of my favorite quotes in the book was “A lifetime of glory is worth a moment of pain.” Told to Louie by his brother, motivated him to finish one of his important races which got him noticed by more people.
  4. Theme- On this page, I expanded on how being resilient helped Louie survive. He fought through harsh conditions and made it out even when nobody knew he was alive. During his time in Japan, he never gave up, he helped others, and even while being targeted because of being a famous runner, he stayed strong.

Overall I really liked this book, as a person who does not like to read, this book got me hooked. I kept wanting to know what happens to Louie next, the whole book feels like it constantly has cliff hangers. It being a real story makes this even more interesting. I would recommend this book to anyone who doesn’t feel disgusted easily, it has many parts that just sound disgusting but overall it is a great story.

Am I a Humanist?

The Renaissance Humanism by Jayden Lung [STUDENT]

The renaissance is an important era in history because of the way it changed the world, I think that i am 70% humanist because I agree with most of the things they did, but I don’t think that only learning from the past is good for the future, learning from the past is important but not the only way. I agree with the education and power of the individual or the balance of power, it led to the spread of knowledge and changed how the world worked.

My Side of the Story- Found Poem

Found Poem by Jayden Lung [STUDENT]

My Side of the StoryAdam Bagdasarian

This story is about a boy who gets into an argument with his brother, he runs towards his mothers room, looking for justice, while shouting, he finds out his father was the one there and ends up getting punished instead of his brother. As you can see, the conflict is a man to man, and kind of a man vs society because the main character does not like what is normal for other people.

I used these words because they described his family and what happens in the story, i inverted the color of the words Fair play, Arguments Punish, and Where was the justice in that?, i felt that these were the things he was thinking most during the story. I chose this background because it has the characters in the story that he describes, and it shows how he is constantly thinking what is right or wrong, He uses the word Justice a lot in the story so i used lady justice as the background.
