Scotch Tape of Justice

The Found Poem above was based on the short story by Adam Bagdasarian, ” My Side of The Story” from the novel ” First French Kiss”. The story talks about the main character’s search of justice when his brother puts scotch tape on his head. Wanting to protect his rights, he goes to find his mom, but ends up talking to his dad instead. His dad believes that the narrator is making too much of a deal about this incident and gets extremely mad, directly pulling the scotch tape from the narrator’s head. At the end of the story, the narrator didn’t get the justice he deserved. We can see this from a quote from the end of the story ” Where, I wondered, was the justice in that? Obviously, when I burst into my mother’s room, I had entered a larger world of justice, a world where screaming, whining, mother dependence, not knocking on closed doors, and startling one’s father were serious crimes.” From the story, I chose a Person VS. Person external conflict between the protagonist- the narrator, and the antagonist- the narrator’s brother Skip and his dad. We know this due to the antagonists’ inhumane behaviors towards the protagonist which the protagonist couldn’t change. The Found Poem I created according to this short story emphasizes the protagonists inner feelings after realizing that everyone was going against him as well as his search for justice when he was treated unfairly by his brother. My found poem is also written in a way, to let readers realize, that life may not always be fair, and that justice promised may not always arrive. For the background of the poem, I chose a small replica of the Lady Justice Statue which can be found at New York City. I chose this background because it clearly links to the main idea/theme of the story- justice. The color of the words in the poem, as you can see, are red. I did this in order to show readers how cruel the narrator’s dad and brother are dealing with him. Red represents the color of blood, and even though they aren’t physically hurting him so much, emotionally, the narrator is bleeding. He is emotionally hurt by them. You may notice some words 0f the poem’s letters are all capitalized. I did this in order to emphasize important words.
