Renaissance Humanism

Imagine a worldview that places human experience and reason at its center, valuing individuality and the pursuit of knowledge. Welcome to humanism. Humanism values the ability of people to influence their own lives and communities using reason, kindness, and creativity. It encourages us to appreciate the deep connections we have as human beings and to focus on compassion and understanding in a world that can be divided. As we deal with the challenges of modern life, humanism pushes us to rethink what we believe is important, promoting a future where everyone’s voice counts and every life is valuable. The reason why I agree with secularism is because secularism protects people’s freedoms. By keeping religion separate from the government, it allows everyone to practice their beliefs freely without being treated unfairly. This leads to a society where different opinions can exist together, promoting respect and understanding among people with various beliefs or no beliefs at all. But, I don’t really agree with importance and dignity of individual. People focusing too much on individual rights can make people care more about themselves than the community. This can weaken connections and reduce shared responsibility, making it harder for communities to work together on issues like poverty or public health that need teamwork. I also support individualism, because it improves your life by promoting personal freedom and self-expression. It encourages you to take responsibility for your choices, values diversity, and boosts creativity. Overall, it leads to a more fulfilling and genuine life. Last but not least, question everything helps you think more clearly and make better decisions. It encourages you to ask questions and look for proof, which protects you from false information. This mindset also fosters curiosity and personal growth, allowing you to learn more and understand different viewpoints. Overall, it helps you become a more informed and confident thinker.

YOU’D KILL ME, BUT, KILLING ISN’T EASY

I created this poem by using the words in the story “Lather and Nothing Else”, by Hernando Téllez, a Colombian journalist and author. The conflict in this story is person versus self. The conflict is essentially about a person shaving another person’s beard. He can kill that person with the shaver, but he can’t decide if he wants to kill him or not. In this passage, the conflict is shown in these words: “Murderer or hero?” “I can push down a little more on my hand, lean like silk, like rubber, like sheepskin. There is nothing more tender than a man’s skin and the blood is always there, ready to flow. A razor like this does not let you down. It’s my best razor. But I don’t want to be a murderer, no sir.”

Welcome to Your New Blog!

When you blog you create posts and posts are categorised according to your subject. Some categories have already been set up for you. If you need more categories you can add them as needed. It’s important that your posts have the following:

  • An engaging title – this should not include the name of the subject since this is referenced in the category.
  • Body – this is where you share your learning. This can include text, images, embedded videos from Dragons’ Tube or elsewhere. You should always consider how your post looks to your audience. Is it engaging? Do they want to keep reading?
  • Category – select one that has been set for you or add a new category. Posts can have more than one category e.g. Humanities and Myself as a Learner
