The Giver book reflection
Book “The Giver,” is written by Lois Lowry, is another Dystopian novel after “The City of Ember,” which had a ‘New Berry Award’ in 1994. First of all, Dystopia is the opposite of Utopia, almost like the end of the day. It is often depicted as being oppressed and controlled by a totalitarian government. Jonas just became 12 years old and living in a utopian society that government control everything useless to them such as things that cause emotional feeling; color. In their society, the kids are born from maternal, and when they became 1 year old, they send it to the selected family. When the kids became 9 years old, they got a bicycle as proof of became part of the society, and when they 12 years old, they got a job from the government. And Jonas received a job called “the giver” who are the only one in the society that has all emotions such as pain, sorrow, and joy are given, and heartbreaking things such as hunger for war, pain, and despair are also passed on from our predecessors. As a result, jonas, who lived in the black and white world, gradually sees colors, realizes the feeling of love, and tries to escape from this frustrating world and get a free life. The decisive event that made me think about this was after knowing the meaning of “release”, the reality of the mother, and killing the born child if it falls short of standards. Eventually he made an escape from the village.
Culture and Social Issue
The societal/cultural issue that I want to explore for this unit is personal identity. Nowadays, many people who are part of society; can not stop their hands and feet from work for their family and etc. This literally causes overdose on the work and sometimes makes them forget what their true identity is. There must be people who were struggling to find out their identity. By having this unit, I want to give and find them by taking a strong identical photo, which makes photos literally as themselves, giving those people who were struggling in their identity.

INTRODUCTION TO PORTRAITURE
A portrait is a picture or photograph that expresses the appearance of a specific person or subject. And I believe that subjects can also be portrait based on my definition. However, when the subject of the portrait changed to a person, then that is slightly different. if a person became the main subject of the portrait, there should not be other unnecessary elements in the portrait, which means, there should not be people or subjects other than the main person in the portrait, and it is composed only of the main person. Moreover, I personally believe that makes good portrait is quality light/shadow, and sharp eyes.
Thrre are few other techniques such as close-up hand, of blurred figure, but the reason why i chose these two techniques is that it shows strong personality. For example, brightness of the lights creates mood and sharp eyes give strong impression to the face. And the portrait of a strong impression is strongly attracted without even knowing it. Mahesh Balasubramanian’s “Divine Makeup”, for example, the girl with blue makeup that covered her whole face and aggressive and sharp eyes overwhelmingly highlight the child’s presence.

In the First Red picture, it used one of Ola Kolehmainen’s technique, taking picture of a building that is reflected by a window, but it is similarly implemented, but Ola Kolehmainen took a building that is reflected from the front (?), and it would not be good because the photos I took also illuminate the lights inside the building.
The following picture also took a building reflected in the mirror, and this part was good, but the angle was skewed. Unlike the Ola Kolehmainen photo, the glass has a lot of hardware, so the reflective area of the building is narrowed, and the trees photographed together are too uncomfortable.
The last picture was taken to use the reflection of the glass attached to the railing of the stairs. The new challenge was good, but the amount of reflection was too little, and I’m not sure where to focus.

I think the first photo shows the grandeur of the building using the angle of the camera. However, on the contrary, due to the angle of the camera, the shadows cast on the building are very noticeable, and even a part of the building in the left corner is annoying.
The second picture was taken on a rainy day, and this also helps the texture of the building, but the symmetry of the buildings on both sides taken from the bridge is not correct, and the streetlight on the left obscures the building, which is also a very regrettable part.
Finally, in the third picture, the mirror between the pillars reflects the pillars to create a deep passage-like direction. However, the image of the person who took the picture was also taken in the mirror, and if, the photographer tried to create a more aisle-like tunnel, then the buildings next to the pillars would rather interfere, and it would have been better if it was taken closer and darker.
Analysis Chosen Artist -Ola Kolehmainen(Re)
Ola Kolehmainen is a contemporary minimalist Finnish photographer who born in 1964 and graduates from the University of Industrial Arts in 1999 and became a group of Helsinki School of the artist. His photographs are mostly photographs using architecture and light, and he often takes pictures with intentionally confusing and abstract colors (blue). Moreover, his photographs reveal the interior and structural details of the building, revealing the changing light of the day and season.
When someone asks why does Kolehmainen only takes pictures of the building is because he “wants to eliminate the visual pollution that often makes us miss architectural materials and forms” according to Galerieforsblom.
