How Brutal is War

This is a book cover based on the theme of the poem “Dulce et Decorum Est” by Wilfred Owen. I chose to use a book cover to show readers what the theme of the poem is and quotes from the poem that supports the idea “Whether you’re serving your country or not, war is miserable.” The three quotes that are shown on the back of my book cover is an overview on the perspective of how brutal war is. The author is trying to say it doesn’t matter if you’re serving your country by sacrificing yourself; a war is a war, and there is nothing more to that.

  1. I like how you used the book cover to communicate with the reader. I believe that pictures are a very powerful way to communicate. In addition, I see the differences between my poem”who’s for the game” and your poem Dulce. In my poem it indicates that war is a glorious opportunity. However, in your poem Dulce, it shows that war is miserable even though you are serving your country. It is interesting to me that even though both of the poems is all about war, we are still able to see the drastic differences between the two perspectives of the poem.
