Hoopoe bird lamp design

When first saw the video of the bird, the first thing that caught my eyes was the color of the bird. The bright yellow and the contrasting black made a stripe pattern which made it look unique.

Inspiration sketches

Lamp sketches

This is the sketching of many objects and the mind map  for inspiration of my lamp. After drawing and listing down the objects, I thought about the idea of a shoe-shaped lamp because that was what came to mt mind when I thought about the lamp I wanted to get.

user design(virtual persona)

This is a digital report of what my user of the lamp might look like.  This included what the user liked, the budget, and what product he is thinking of buying.

After deciding that I am making a lamp based on a shoe, I searched up the design on the internet and also took a a precise look at the real pair and drew a drawing from different perspectives according to the designers that the class learned from in class. The designers I watched emphasized the roughness of design and just drawing.

Using Affinity, I Drew a drawing with the real portion of the shoe and thought about the functions other than the color changing light that it can contain to add originality. I thought that this could be a great use when playing basketball at night, so added a wireless charging and speaker feature for outdoor use.

These are the final illustrations I came up with and the poster plan. It used a white background at first, but as I went through the steps, I realized that the black background would bring a emphasis to the lamp.

This is the final poster. I made it according to the plan, but I found that changing the order of the illustrations made the poster more simple so reordered the illustrations

My mindmap:

Glasses Design

This glasses is a light-weight and eco-friendly glasses made out of bamboo. It has a thin frame which uses little material and is shaped like standard glasses so people can use this glasses daily.

This glasses is designed for kids who love candies. Inspired from an ice cream which had candy inside the  stick part. Likewise, there is candy inside the legs of the glasses which can be refilled through the end of the leg

This glasses is designed to be used in the winter. It has fur on the legs to keep the ears warm and also has a small heater inside and a small battery on the front part of the legs. It allows to warm the ears when the weather is cold.

Practicing on Affinity

(Making a lazer cut blueprint)

Lazer cutted results

Feedback on my work: It worked well than I thought we would be. But I think I need more practice on Affinity in order to create the design I want to. I got feedbacks about the color and the pattern of the glasses. I agree that I need some patterns and colors on the glasses that reflect my purpose and identity. I next step I have to take to lead myself to a better result is putting in the details. Succeeding the design for my glasses will be making a glasses that people can wear everyday.

The glass design that I finally decided to print was a sports goggle type glasses that can be used when participating in sports such as cycling. The big lens enables the protection of the eyes.

The printed glasses looks like the picture above. I printed the glass with acrylic so that I can bend the glass afterwards to make a curved shape that fits the face. I tried to make the hinges and make the legs moving, but I was not able to make them.

Bad design to good design
