Independent Reading Reflection

Some novels and texts I have read are,  Complicit ,  The hate you give , and The absolutely true diary of a part-time indian would rate complicit six out of ten because it doesn’t have a very interesting story and , I would rate the hate you give 9out of ten because it has a great storyline describing realistic events, and I would rate the absolutely true diary of a part time indian five out of ten because it’s interesting but not the type of book I would usually read.

Of the texts I read so far I feel like I will annotate The Hate you Give.

My chosen text makes it suitable for the analysis because it has many literary techniques in it.

My concern about the text is that it’s more story-based and the literacy techniques are limited.

Engineering Project R&S

Since some sewing techniques are new to us, we learned them online (on the following website: https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/lilypad-basics-e-sewing/sewing-with-conductive-thread). On our design, we used a circuit playground and three battery holders. For the circuit playground part, we need first to sew one hole (e.g., A3) with conductive tape. After that, sew one hole with the positive side of the LED (e.g., A5), sew the ground with the negative side of the LED. One circuit playground can hold at most 3 LEDs.

Engineering Project C&I

During the making of the project, we realized that it would be too complicated to make conductive clothing, so instead, we changed to using a felt. We did not do the conductive clothing because it was extremely hard to sew on, the thread would easily fall off, and it is hard to see the inside part of the shirt. Therefore, we designed a piece of felt to look like Kobe’s basketball jersey so it could have a design, and we sewed on the conductive thread and made sure everything lit up.

Engineering Project Develop & Plan

Develop & Plan

I decided to go with the circuit idea because it was the most practical and useful.

The materials I will need are

  • Conductive thread
  • Conductive fabric
  • LED lights
  • Fabric
  • Conductive tape
  • A battery holder
  • Battery
  • Needle
  • Circuit Playground

Schedule

Lesson 1: Gather the materials and start making the base

Lesson 2: Finish the part of the fabric and if there is time left start sewing on the components

Lesson 3: Keep sewing

Lesson 4: Keep sewing

Lesson 5: Finish the product and make any quick changes

Engineering Project Define & Inquire

Engineering Project

Define and Inquire: In this engineering project we are required to design something that shows energy transfer. Energy transfer is the conversion of one form of energy into another, or the movement of energy from one place to another. In this task we must create a toy that converts energy or take a renewable energy source and convert it to electrical energy, or design and create a device that transfers energy, or design and make a device that can be used to learn physics. The product should function and should be aesthetically appealing, it needs to have a purpose and a client, it should be original, should consider environmental impact, and it should be durable and safe for the user.

My ideas: One of my ideas is making a toy that has a circuit on it, there would be fabric with drawings and designs on it and the circuit on it can light the lights on it and make it more interactive.

Pros: ISB has all the materials, it demonstrates energy transfer

Cons: It is highly sophisticated and needs prior knowledge to make

English Socratic Seminar Reflection

One thing I did well in the Socratic seminar is that I spoke clearly and fluently, and expressed my own ideas well.

I still need to work on using citations from the actual text, analyzing language usage in the book, and contributing more to the discussion. I know I need to improve on this because I’m weaker at these places on the rubric, and during the peer assessment Aaron told me I need to contribute more, as I only started contributing when people invite me in the discussion.

My goal for next time is to contribute more, cite more from the actual text, analyze the book just like the poetry essay, and listen to others better.

I will achieve these goals by preparing more before the discussion and focusing more during the discussion.

Beast Burger Logo Design

Beast Burger

A beast burger is a company created by Mr. Beast a big YouTuber. The beast burger shop is just a fast food shop that sells things like french fries, burgers, and things you would see in a fast-food restaurant. The Mr.Beast company was established on November 19 2020 and was established because they wanted to open a burger shop so they could make more money to use on youtube videos.

The target of the Beast Burger are children or people that watch his videos because he is a famous youtube so that leads people to think that they should try out this burger.

These are my twenty ideas.

Made with Padlet

This is the padlet.

This is one of my logo designs, it is a stencil of Mr beast wearing his iconic straw hat.

This was the first version of that design, I got peer feedback from chairs for this version and it was to make the mustache look better so in the other version the mustache looks much better. He also said that I should make another design.

I made another design of a wildcat biting o the letters of beast burger which turned out quite well.

Achieving success criteria

I have been able to achieve criteria 1 The logo is the face – its job is to create recognition for the brand. Its job is not to visibly show the product. My design allows the audience to recognize the person on my logo and recognize what brand this is. I have achieved the second criteria, Keep it flexible – the logo should be recognized at a tiny size (favicon) or if it’s distorted. I made my logo very tiny on affinity and can still recognize it. I have sketched twenty ideas. I did not do the fourth criteria (be geometric – start with simple shapes, this will ensure your logo is simple and functional) well. I did not start with simple shapes, the shape I started with is quite complex. The fifth criteria Start with black & white – this will ensure your logo is successful in its most basic form and doesn’t require color/effects I did well. I started with black and white and even after I finished the logo, it was still black and white. I kind of did the sixth criteria, I did use negative space with the face of the person on my logo to make it seem more human. The last one I can’t really tell if I did well or not because it is Test your logo – how recognizable is your logo from memory, or when made very small? I didn’t run tests with others, but I can recognize it and remember it myself because I spent hours making it. In the next lessons, I just need to get some peer feedback and alter my logo to meet the criteria of the feedback I get.

This is the presentation I made to inform the audience of my logo.

Reading Reflection#1

Complicit-Stephanie Khuen

The novel is set in America, it is written in the first person., it is realistic fiction. The main characters are James Henry the protagonist and Cate Henry his sister. James is a normal boy that has a seizure every now and then, Cate is his sister that does many bad things, so she gets sent to juvenile detention. The plot of the story revolves around his sister being let out of detention. Some choices the author has made have allowed the novel fast-paced, and thrilling, sometimes even surprising. The novel doesn’t connect with me much in real life, in fact, I and the main character are exact opposites. The main character is somewhat disabled and has a crazy sister. My sister is a college student in Melbourne that is completely normal. The main character’s personality is about him hating his life sometimes, and being depressed 30% of the time. The novel has made me realize that life compared to James’s is great, so I should be very glad about what I have. My prediction about the novel is that the main character successfully dates the girl he likes, and eventually becomes great friends with his sister or sends her to jail again.

Lyrics & Type

During the making of this, I got peer feedback from Mr . Griffin and Chris. Mr.Griffin told me that my lines were too thick and some of the lines were not straight so I had to change that. Chris told me that I needed a background so I added a background with a huge heart.

These are my rough sketches of the drafts.

Graphic Design Principle Poster

In this project, everyone got assigned a design element and I got balance. This principle is basically about how symmetrical something is. For my design, I chose to make a person sitting on a bench shaped as a heartbeat. During the process I came up with three designs, the first one was shaped like a monster, the second one was a sad person, and the third one was a bunch of shapes.

This is my final design
