English SWOT table

Reading

Strengths: I don’t think I have many strengths because I don’t read much. Maybe I have a lot of time to read?

Weaknesses: I read too slow, sometimes I can’t focus.

Opportunities: I have the resources and time

Threats: Parents consistently tell me to stop reading whatever I’m reading right now and read what they want me to read.

Writing

Strengths: I have a wide span of vocabulary; I can write or type fast

Weaknesses: I don’t really know how to write well, it can be hard to think of what to write next, only some small grammar issues

Opportunities: I’m in a great school?

Threats: Don’t have any

Speaking

Strengths: I like doing speeches, I don’t feel nervous speaking in front of an audience, loud clear voice

Weaknesses: Memorizing scripts

Opportunities: Drama class or talking

Threats: None

Goal: By reading 20 minutes every day I would like to improve my reading speed. I will know when I can read more pages than before in a certain amount of time.

Persona portrait

Artist Denis Gonchar. His style is more pop culture-ish He uses a large variety of color that blends together really well, he draws a lot of famous people, and makes them look really realistic. He also adds many shapes on the person’s face so it looks more 3D or not like an actual self-portrait.

This piece of artwork is made by Lui Ferreyra, she uses many lines to illustrate her portraits. She uses complex color fields as well to show many relationships in her artwork.

This image replaces the hair and many other parts of the body with many different colors and this is a very cool approach.

This was made by SamJi I really like the background of this drawing and the hair and how the hair is gradient.

This art piece was created by Jan21, he made a portrait of himself in a cartoon way, I really like this way of drawing too, this is simple and also easy to identify who you are.

This design by Dustin Kent is interesting too, the character looks like someone in a cartoon but is also very realistic, it has a simple background, the colors were chosen very wisely, there is also an outline of the portrait, and the hair was done very easily.

This piece was done by Csaba Gyulai, his piece is like a face in horror movies, with a lot of great shading in the right places to create shape, the color scheme again is really like a horror movie that is also why I like it.

This piece was done by Mustafa Kural, this is super realistic the light and shading are applied to make it really realistic, he also adds texture and the cool part of this is that thing done by pencil which I might try.

This cartoon was done by Jerzy Wiezry,  this piece is a portrait of the whole body so it would make the most sense to make a cartoon because it takes less time and at the same time it still looks good.

This piece is done by Arunas Kacinscas, his piece has so many lines on it, the whole entire face is made up of lines, including the shading and he created texture and shape using this line technique as well, in the background, there are some shapes and lines, this makes me think of a heartbeat.

Peer feedback: At first when I was choosing a design I asked Rachel and Bella and they chose the design I drew. During the process, Takumi told me a technique where I could fill in enclosed spaces and I did like how he said which worked out great. I asked Emily how it looked at the end, she said it looked great but I should add more details on the hair, so I added the white part and the dark green part on the hair. Also, the ROYAL on the hoodie was an idea Takumi gave me.

Here are the first three designs I thought of, at the end I chose the second one.

My final portrait looks like this, during the process I first drew an outline and then added colors and details. During the process of making the portrait one of the hardest parts was erasing the outline and then refilling it.

Circuits Project

My original plan was to put LEDs all over my shirt and to put LEDs on the letters on my shirt.

During the process, I had to first do my coding which assured that my components on the circuit would work. This is my coding.

Coding was one of the difficult things about this project because I have not had any experience with coding before so I did not know what to do for the coding. I solved the problem of coding by asking peers and Ms.Kim about how the coding worked.                   After the coding, I moved on to sewing. The first thing I had to do was sow on a pocket to hold the battery pack, to make this easier I used something called hoops to make it easier to sow on the fabric. After that I used conductive fabric tape and put it on the letters of the T-shirt, to make the LED light-up I had to sow on the conductive fabric, and make it connect to my LED and my circuit playground express.  After sewing everything on all I had to do then was tough my conductive fabric to make my LED light up, but mine did not work. My plans had to change so much because at first, I wanted to do three LEDs then after I sew one on it took me too much time so I had to just go with one.  Some things that I learned in this project were how to sew how to make LEDs light up using conductive fabric and conductive thread.

Circuits Bookmark Project

For this project, I was inspired by my friend and made something abstract. During this unit something new to me was sewing because I have not done much sewing before, this was also difficult and sometimes frustrating because I would prick myself on the finger, the thread would come off of the needle, and such.

I discarded some of my other designs because they were either too complicated or too easy to make, the one I made was just right. I was most proud of how nice my project looked because it was something abstract.

Something new to me was sewing, conductive thread, all these different types of stitches, a new battery holder, and making shapes with felt. Some tips I would give next semester’s students are always listening to the teacher because their suggestions are always very important. I want to learn more about how to sew better.

The Fight for Freedom

My character’s name is Patrick born in the year 1747,  he was a soldier that lived in Boston who had little power and was not married or in any type of relationship.

The American Revolution was one of the most important revolutions in world history and caused many changes. The American Revolution all started because of tax, after the tax the Americans started to fight back by basically killing taxers and dumping a bunch of tea in the ocean. This caused many wars including the battles of Saratoga and the siege of Yorktown. During the battles of Saratoga, the French came and helped the Americans which made it a great turning point, during the siege of Yorktown the Americans beat the British which made this the last war before the revolutionary war which led the Americans to freedom. After the siege of Yorktown, rich white men and merchants still had the greatest amount of control over the economy but everyone got a say in the government which is also called a democracy.  There were also many other changes like freedom of worship, the change of inheritance laws where daughters and sons can inherit, the separation of church and state, the monarchy was changed into a democracy where there was no single king or queen instead there was an elected president, there was a different political power in the hands of ordinary men, birth wasn’t destiny, no one denied you because of who your parents were, and the Americans could expand their land. In conclusion, the American Revolution was a successful revolution.

King Georges Difficulties

Made by Alex, Hanna, George

The American Revolution ended in a success and the Americans lived happily ever after.

I learned that not all revolutions end well, as you can see the Russians did not succeed but the Americans succeeded, so the big idea is that revolutions take lots of money lots of effort, and lots of lives.

Chew on This

Chew on This- Eric Schlosser

My theme is long term benefits are more important than short term benefits. One piece of evidence is that the author talked about all the additives and unhealthy things factories put in fast food, and another piece of evidence is that the author said that people become extremely fat or obese after eating too much fast food.

One reason to read this book is that it will increase your knowledge of food, another reason to read this book is that you can improve your diet after reading this. The most important thing I learned in this unit is how important health and food are, and how much their related.

Red Cheeks

Between internal and external conflict I chose to discuss the external conflict. The main external conflict in Fish cheeks is that Amy likes Robert but is embarrassed by her Chinese culture. Amy describes her culture as shabby and she says that her relatives lacked proper American manners. She also states that she feels despair and that she was stunned for the rest of the night. After dinner Amy’s mother then tells her that her only shame is to have shame. This shows that the main external conflict is that Amy is embarrassed by her Chinese culture. For my drawing, I chose the colors red and blue to symbolize the Chinese and American flag and I drew a fish and hearts to represent love and the food.
