The Fight for Freedom

My character’s name is Patrick born in the year 1747,  he was a soldier that lived in Boston who had little power and was not married or in any type of relationship.

The American Revolution was one of the most important revolutions in world history and caused many changes. The American Revolution all started because of tax, after the tax the Americans started to fight back by basically killing taxers and dumping a bunch of tea in the ocean. This caused many wars including the battles of Saratoga and the siege of Yorktown. During the battles of Saratoga, the French came and helped the Americans which made it a great turning point, during the siege of Yorktown the Americans beat the British which made this the last war before the revolutionary war which led the Americans to freedom. After the siege of Yorktown, rich white men and merchants still had the greatest amount of control over the economy but everyone got a say in the government which is also called a democracy.  There were also many other changes like freedom of worship, the change of inheritance laws where daughters and sons can inherit, the separation of church and state, the monarchy was changed into a democracy where there was no single king or queen instead there was an elected president, there was a different political power in the hands of ordinary men, birth wasn’t destiny, no one denied you because of who your parents were, and the Americans could expand their land. In conclusion, the American Revolution was a successful revolution.

King Georges Difficulties

Made by Alex, Hanna, George

The American Revolution ended in a success and the Americans lived happily ever after.

I learned that not all revolutions end well, as you can see the Russians did not succeed but the Americans succeeded, so the big idea is that revolutions take lots of money lots of effort, and lots of lives.

Chew on This

Chew on This- Eric Schlosser

My theme is long term benefits are more important than short term benefits. One piece of evidence is that the author talked about all the additives and unhealthy things factories put in fast food, and another piece of evidence is that the author said that people become extremely fat or obese after eating too much fast food.

One reason to read this book is that it will increase your knowledge of food, another reason to read this book is that you can improve your diet after reading this. The most important thing I learned in this unit is how important health and food are, and how much their related.

The paw of fate

I think the theme of monkey’s paw is fate. In the story of monkey’s paw the characters in the story had three wishes, in line 56 it says “An old fakir put a spell on it, he wanted to show that fate ruled people’s lives, and that to interfere with fate only caused deep sadness.” This shows that the old man wants fate to rule people and he did not want people to fight fate. Later in the story, Mr. White tried to wish for two hundred pounds, days after a man came to their house and told Mrs. White and Mr. White that their son has died. Then he said that he needed to pay them two hundred pounds. Mrs. White and Mr. White were extremely sad from that day on, so they took the monkeys paw and wished for their son again. Later, in line 318, Mrs. White says” the bolt at the top I can’t reach it.” This proves that fate is trying not to let her open the door for her son to come back, and at the last second Mr. White used the paw to make their son disappear again. From wishing for two hundred pounds and their son dying to reviving their son and still failing all leads me to believe that the theme of monkey’s paw is fate.
