Monologue final performance

I think this is the best practice of my monologue yet. My voice is finally loud enough!

I’m proud of the improvement in my volume. I wish I could have added more hand gestures if I had the time.

I felt more emotion as I applied for Stanislavsky’s work I actually felt like I was putting myself in the character’s shoes.

One discovery I found was pretending the other character was in the room really helped with focus, emotion, and eye contact. I also used to learn beats and dividing the sections.

Physical Destination Exercise planning

  • Who am I? Myself- a student
  • What time is it? after school (afternoon)
  • Where am I?  home
  • What surrounds me? my books, my bed, computer, learning materials
  • What are the given circumstances? I’m trying to study but fails because of how tired I was at school, emotions, and forgetting my material
  • What is my relationship? A student at home
  • What do I want? study for a test
  • What’s in my way? Keep wanting to think about what happened at school, and forgetting to get the correct notebooks and materials I need to use.
  • What do I do to get what I want? Spend time to (rest eyes for seconds) clear my mind for a minutes before completely focusing on work

Improvisation reflection

I used to think that improvisation is really difficult and it is really easy to make mistakes. But now after a few lessons I think it has gotten easier for me and I make less mistakes now. I think a big idea of improvisation is taking others’ ideas and adding to it. I think it is really important during improvisation to listen to others and also add your own ideas, you need both in improv. During improvisation I think I did well with the pre-planning and creating beginning middle and end. I struggled a bit with thinking of new ideas on the spot. I think I need to practice with a lot of different people and listen to everyone’s ideas to become a better ensemble member.

What makes an effective ensemble member?

List:

  1. Risk taker
  2. positive and energetic
  3. Aware and in Control
  4. Focused
  5. Active Listener
  6. Cooperative and Collaborative
  7. Efficient
  8. Leaders & Followers
  9. Positively Critical & able to act on that criticism

Which of the ensemble member qualities do you feel you would like to work on this semester and why?

I would like to work on risk taking, and leaders & followers because sometimes I might be scared to try out a new harder idea and I don’t enjoy leading a scene.

English 9 end of year reflection!!!

HIIIII this is supposed to be fun. Sooooo I hope I don’t have to write formally and check for grammar errors and stuff like that. I picked this option because I like writing things down and typing things. First off, main thing I learned in English 9 is plan out what you are going to write first before you start! I’m proud of my improvement in reading because it is the skill that improved the most out of reading, writing, and presenting. I still need to work on reading skills and presenting skills though (both are not that good yet but I will continue to work on them) A goal that I have for next year is to improve my general reading skills and my organization in writing. A tip I would give to the upcoming 9th grade students is…. DON’T PROCRASTINATEEEEE!!! Especially not in writing because you will realize you have no time to write multiple drafts and revise :))))

BYE! I had a great year in this class! Thank you all my classmates (for giving useful feedback)
Thank you Ms. Wong you were one of my favorite teachers! (I hope you will still coach volleyball next year)

Science engineering project blog posts

Blog post one-define and inquire

Two design ideas I like:

Target age:
Gravity car: 10-16
Newton’s cradle: 12-18
Pros and cons: pro for gravity car, easier to make con: material is harder to find (pulley)
pro for Newton’s cradle : has more concepts of physics and you learn more things from it con: harder to make (has to be more precise/exact in measurements)

Blog post two-develop and plan

New skills: I needed to know how pulley works, trial and error, and used gravity in this project.

Blog post three- create and improve

The car moved but the nut didn’t go up as the wheels moved. Feedback I got was to put hot glue on the ends of the stick (connecting two wheels) so that the stick will move along when car/wheel moves. After correcting that, the stick moved along as the wheels moved BUT the string that was tied to the nut did not wrap around the stick as it moved forward. I fixed it by glueing the knot I made from string to the stick. This helped the string wrap around the stick as the car moved. After fixing both of these problems, the nut successfully moves up when the car moves forward.

failed attempt

Blog post four-reflect and share

The car worked in the end. The nut moved up as the car moved forward (potential energy increase, kinetic energy decreased.) The nut weighs, so gravity helps nut go down. If the Nut gets pulled down, the string forces the car to move. The building part was successful because I built the car well enough so that it would move.  The science part with the car moving and nut moving up needed to be improved because the nut didn’t move up at first.  It impacts the environment slightly because I used wood and plastic (wheels are probably plastic) to build the car, but the car itself doesn’t affect the environment.

Independent reading The Land of Stories book 5-An Author’s Odyssey

Ended page 408

Connor and Alex have gone through all of Connor’s stories and they want the characters from these stories to help them with fighting the masked man. Unfortunately, they faced some trouble when finding the characters a place to stay. Charlotte, Conner’s mom, has to work which means she can’t look after the characters.  They came up with an idea of putting them in the hospital, but they had to come up with an excuse of why the characters are dressed they way they are. Conner and Alex eventually came up with a idea of saying they are putting up a play for the Children’s hospital. The play ended well and it put smiles on the children’s faces.  Now Conner and Alex along with the characters have to go back to fairy tale world and face the Masked Man.

The Land of Stories- book 5 An Author’s Odyssey

Ended page 346

I like how this book is split into small little sections. The main characters Conner and Alex are traveling into books Conner wrote. Each time they travel to a different book, it’s like a different section. Right now Conner and Alex have went into all the stories and found extra heros to help them fight the Masked Man. Unfortunately, Emmerich one of their school friends is the Masked man’s son. He didn’t realize it but he was actually leading the Masked Man to what he wanted. The Masked Man convinced Emmerich by telling him that he was his dad and also Alex and Conner’s uncle.  As readers, we don’t know what the Masked Man wants which is why it is interesting.

The Land of Stories book 5 An Author’s Odyssey 11/23

I think it was interesting that the main character Conner wrote a fictional story and he thought it was completely made up. In reality, it was a situation that actually happened to him and his sister Alex when they were young. This made Alex realize her mistake and she learned she should support her brother more. Her brother Conner is really talented in writing but her and her teacher didn’t realize because Alex was so smart in school and completely covered up Conner.  The moral of this part of the story was you should believe in yourself and everything you do.

Zhi Ruo Li’s Journal (Chinese Cultural Revolution)

I was learning the Chinese Cultural  Revolution and our assignment was to write three journals. The journal is in the point of view of a person that was living during the Cultural Revolution.
