What is your product idea and who is your audience?

Pizza rolls are a snack that brings the  great flavors,  it comes in a spring roll form. Each pizza rolls is carefully made with an outer layer, a delicious filling. There could be multiple flavors that come along such as BBQ chicken, pork and vegetarian. This way the customers of a younger audience can choose their Asian and Italian favorite flavors, and enjoy every bite.

What are your plans for data collection and modeling, as a group or individual?

I don’t know plans for data collection and modeling yet.

Ingredients:

Mozerella cheese

Tomato sauce

Springroll wrap

Peparoni

Italian herbs

What is your role in the team?

I am doing nutritional research, James Gao did package design, Bago did financial planning, Calvin did consumer surveys and research.

What are some potential challenges you may run into over the next three weeks?

Problem with cooking and productivity:

Cooking pizarolls can be a fun and delicious, it might come with a some challenges. Here are potential problems we might encounter. If the oil is not hot enough or if the rolls are left in the oil for too long, they may absorb excess oil, resulting in a soggy texture. The rolls might be burn when frying if we don’t turn it over. One more problem is productivity challenges because we had lack of communication and commitment regarding some group member is worrying.

Overfilling the spring roll or not sealing them properly can lead to the filling leak out during frying. Burnt exterior or undercooked interior. Wrapper cracking and flavor imbalance if the ingredient is not properly mixed.

Design package logo is called Italian Spring Bite.

Artist Inspiration 2

Fan Ho

5 characteristics

  1. Mostly shot in black and white

2. Uses a lot of shadows and dark areas

3. Balanced between white and grey

4. Interesting angles

5. Mostly human elements, on the street

I have chosen Fan Ho. He uses shadows to create a sense of mystery up his photographs. He uses shadows to make a photograph have multiple layers and have a deeper meaning. His photos have a beautiful balance of black and white. They focus on street photography and they usually have a human element. It create feelings of darkness and nostalgia.

Photo Evaluation:

I chose this image. I like how the woman standing but it looks like she is standing two colors. Not really sure what mood she is.  One element that is significant to Fan Ho is light. Light played a crucial role in his compositions, creating dramatic contrasts, highlighting the subject, and adding depth and atmosphere to his photographs. Fan Ho often captured scenes with strong directional light, casting intriguing shadows and emphasizing textures. He carefully observe how light interacted with the environment, architecture, and people using it to create visual interest and evoke emotions. This photo is important because it attracts people and focus the color especially light and shadows. This photo can tell what people feel right now. For example woman is probably thinking of something, feel lonely or depress. I can’t really see details in this photo. There is woman and light and shadows. So it doesn’t really show details, what this photo trying to tell. I like light compositions. This is the best one that took from the street because it emphasize lights and and shadows between woman. I will took picture using more lights and shadows in the street.

Yellow to Green to Red Selection

Above are all my yellow photos. These were the 17 photos of the -32 I took. I chose them because they have nice angles and leading lines. They are simple but I think they are effective.

These are my green photos. They are the best 6 photos of the previous 12. I think these photos are the most detailed with some close ups. They are interesting to look at with nice angles and depth. The second one should be blue color wall but it changed to orange when I took it. For the fourth one I built some kind of tower with the chair in a black box  to look like abstract.

These are my red photos that I ultimately decided were the best photos. These photos are my favorite as they have a certain style and aesthetic that I like. They are overexposed and out of focus, and while this may not be liked by some I actually like the consequence. I selected these photos because they matched with my statement of intent and they had a similar feel to Uta Barth photographs.

Artist Selection

Uta Barth

Characteristic:

Uta Barth uses a lot of blurry and soft focus images. Barth often employ out of focus and intentionally blurred imagery in her photographs. This approach creates a dreamlike and ethereal quality, emphasizing the aspects of the scenes she captures. She utilize emphasize on light. Light plays a significant role in Barth’s work. She explores the interplay between natural and artificial light, often using subtle variations in light to highlight details. Barth’s photographs often focus on everyday subjects,  like windows. Barth’s photographs rarely encompass human figures. Instead, she directs attention to the traces of human existence. Barth’s work is characterized in to the nature of perception and representation. She investigates how we contract meaning and experience through visual perception.

I have chosen Barth as I like her photo that most of her photo is blurry. As well there is no shadows. A quote that I think is her work invites viewers to engage in their own contemplative experiences.

Photo Evaluation:

I chose this photo, as it depicts window, with an intriguing play of light and reflection. The windows panes are dirty, which adds an element of texture and obscures the view to the outside. The glow of warm light, suggests either a sunrise or sunset, but it’s softened and diffused, likely by the dirt of the window.

The surprising element of this photograph lies in its ability to find beauty even in normal things. It captures something I don’t even notice and turns into something special through the use of light, shadow and texture.

One of the formal elements that is significant is texture. Texture is important because window doesn’t look like clean window.  It is really messy, paint with kind of like gray color or it is just water when someone clean that window.  Because of the window I can’t really see the outside, it is sunrising or sunsetting.

I chosen this artist regarding the abstract nature of the photograph, the image leaves us to imagine what is behind the window.

I like the style because it is simple, yet very intricate. It makes me think about the photo and I can feel different emotions from it.

To adapt this style to my own photography, I would seek out scenes that combine texture, light and use blurry out of focus backgrounds to achieve a similar effect. I want the viewer to guess about the picture I have choses.

Statement of Intent

The Beauty of Simplicity

The central theme is to appreciate and honor the simplistic aspects of life. Simplicity can be found in the most mundane and overlooked details, offering a scene charm and a sense of claim. I aim for the audience to find solace in in the simplicity of their surroundings, discovering tranquility and contentment in viewing my presentation.  I will seek inspiration from photographers who capture simplicity, focusing on images that convey clarity and minimalism. I believe it’s significant to merit and embrace a variety of features, such as  the lighting and framing.  Also, they bring profound joy and comfort, especially during challenging times and when we feel depressed.

Elements

Formal elements are line, shape, pattern, tone, texture and focus. Formal elements means in photography is the visual components that contribute to the overall composition and aesthetic of an image. Photographers use elements to create and organize their photographs.

Line is to create visual interest and convey a message in an image. Lines can be used to direct the viewer’s attention create a sense of depth and can even be used to create a sense of movement. Shape is like a two dimensional subject or object captured from behind the lens and they don’t exhibit depth. Pattern utilizes elements that are repeated. The repetition of lines, shapes, tones, or colors can create interesting image. Texture is the visual quality of the surface of an object, revealed through variances in shape, tone, and color depth. Tone is the levels of brightness in the photograph, from dark black to clear white. Shadows are dark tones; highlights are bright tones. Focus is the sharpest area of the image. It is the area where the lens works to highlight an object, a person, or a situation.

Image can focus on a single element at a time. Photographers often make deliberate choices to highlight a specific element to create a strong visual impact. For example, a photographer might mostly feature strong diagonal lines cutting across the frame, drawing attention to the dynamic nature of the composition. In this case, it only focus on the element of line while other elements such as shape, pattern, or color might be less pronounced.

Edward Weston photo analysis

Inside Edward Weston's The Flame of Recognition

Edward Western might have been interested in texture, light and symbolic expression. He had a deep appreciation for the inherent beauty found in everyday objects, natural forms and landscapes. He was known for his meticulous expression of the textures, shapes, and patterns presents in his subject.  He sought to reveal the visual qualities and underlying structures that might be ignored by casual observation. He had skilled in adjusting light and achieving a wide tonal range in his photographs. He carefully crafted his compositions to highlight the play of light and shadow, bringing out the subtle gradations of gray tones. He recognized the potential for his images to capture the spirit of his subjects. This photo looks like a hat or some kind of flower. My title for his is photo is natural abstract because it capture his work, highlighting the complex patterns, shapes, and textures found in natural subjects. Line creates a sense of movement or structure within an image. Lines can be straight, curved, diagonal, or intersecting. Shapes are the two-dimensional forms created by lines, contours, and boundaries within an image. Patterns are the repetition of elements, such as shapes, colors or textures, within an image. Texture refers to the visual and tactile qualities of a surface. Tone refers to the distribution of light and dark within an image. Focus refers to the sharpness and clarity of the elements within an image.

Abstract Photography

Pictorialism movement in photography is an approach to photography, that highlight, beauty of subject matter, and composition  above creating an accurate visual record. Through, their creations, the movement strove to elevate photography to the same level as printing and have it recognized as such by galleries and other artistic institutions. The pictorialist movement was at its most active between 1885 and 1915 and during its golden age it had an international reach in England, France, and the USA. Pictorialist photograph mean an image that has been manipulated in some way to boost its artistic impact.

The straight movement in photography is refers to a photograph that are not manipulated.  It was popular amongst photographers because the main purpose of straight photography was to capture a realistic, and produce unmanipulated representation of the subject. It rejected the use of technique, such as soft focus, composing printing, and hard coloring that were common in the pictorialist style of photography that preceded it.

Straight Photography Movement Overview | TheArtStory

Edward Weston started to sharpen the straight photography way of taking pictures that he had begun to develop. He took pictures of people he met and of objects and buildings.  His pictures appeared to represent the true nature of his subjects. Aaron Siskind offered an significant model for other photographers who wanted to communicate personal ideas by constructing compositions from the outside world rather than documenting events.

Andreas Gursky is a renowned modern contemporary photographer known for his large-scale, highly detailed and often abstract image. He explores the impact of contemporary globalization and technology on our environment and society. Uta Barth invert the notion of background and foreground in photography and bringing awareness to a viewer’s attention to visiual information with in the photographic frame. Her work is as much about vision and perception as it is about the failure to see, and the precarious nature of perceptual habits.
