“Misemployed”

This final presentation represents many different misuse of instruments, specifically the violin. This final representation demonstrates the expression of the actor which can imply that he might think that he is doing the right thing by playing the violin, however his physical demonstrations are saying otherwise. During the editing process, I have created the pictures on capture one and made it into a contact sheet. This makes the 8 pictures into a series of pictures instead of 8 different pictures. I think that this can portray different views on of the same person on the same portrait. It can also convey different ways on how holding and playing the violin the wrong way is bad. The demonstration of playing something wrong can be very easy to spot, especially with something like the violin. This makes the picture very effective to portray what i want the audience to see.  The tone and color that i have put in the final product shows that mood can change, but the actions cannot change. This is the problem that people also face when playing instruments. It shows a series of change for the colors, and it shows interesting change from very obvious tints of color to normality. This can show how the person probably knows that he did something wrong, yet he is still doing it because it seems fun to him. In conclusion, this project Misemployed, it is a project in which people should be more informed about how people cannot get away with the fact that they are playing the instrument in the wrong way, especially in performances in concerts.

This red photo that i have selected has shown the expression that the player is proud of playing the instrument correctly, however his physical movements clearly show otherwise. The contrast between his expression and the violin playing is why I chose this picture as something I would like to present as the final product.  Apart from the physical holding of the instrument and the expression shown, this picture symbolizes the great few thousand of people who actually practice wrong on a daily basis, and has to fix the posture as soon as possible or else they will see dramatic effects on their violin/ instrumental playing. The background and tint of color is removed to show that this is a picture that may be simple but shows different aspects of truth in many people. The tint is also removed to show contrast of this photograph and others with tints of color.

On the red selection, I finally sorted out the entirety of the few hundred pictures into just 8 pictures. These 8 pictures will make and create my entirety of my final project. These pictures portray the correct intent of my purpose of taking the pictures. It represents how instruments are being played on the wrong way, and that it could be corrected easily. It is spotted easily because of physical movements, and it is easier to spot when playing the instrument.

On the green selections, these pictures are satisfactory, however the flaws are also less obvious, but the expression and positioning are correct, however the red pictures do it better than the green ones, as its more obvious of what my artistic intentions are. I eliminated the yellow pictures into these pictures because these pictures also may have a possibility to be in the red selection, however are just less  efficient in conveying the meaning that I was meaning to portray in my artistic statement.

For my yellow selection, there are many positions and shows different expressions within the pictures. However, there are flaws in these pictures like the focus, the repetition of the photos and others, the brightness of the picture/ the tone of the picture and the expressions that don’t fit the positions they are making with the violin.

The title of my project will be named “Misemploy”. The issue that i will be focusing on is that how people are misusing instruments, and how it could affect their overall playing technique as well as their musicality whilst playing music. As people are playing instruments, lots of people use it on a wrong note, because they think it feels more comfortable or it ‘seems’ right. However, it is a big issue that people cannot play in their best performance because of the slight problems they have. There are also families who do not use instruments yet still purchase them. This is a waste of money and a waste of space, as art has to be shown and performed, or else it would have no value in it.

The misuse of a violin:

In this picture it is clear that a man is trying to play the violin, however he is playing with bad form, but his body language shows that he is with full confidence. However,  Playing an instrument incorrectly can restrict one’s ability to play specific compositions or musical genres. For instance, if a violinist holds the bow improperly, they may be unable to play certain musical compositions or produce specific tones. The way of holding the bow and the extra lifting of the bow, makes the violin playing very difficult to both visualise and to play. Especially the bow holding, it is a crucial part of playing the violin since it affects the instrument’s tone, precision, and sound quality. The arm’s position is one of the most important aspects of holding a bow; it shouldn’t be lifted to the point where it makes playing difficult. Furthermore,  The arm should be held at a natural angle when holding the bow. The bow should be held with the fingers and thumb curled, and the elbow should always be kept just below the wrist. The wrist and fingers should provide control and flexibility when the bowing arm is moved in a fluid and smooth manner. Although it is understandable that he is just a actor that demonstrates the usage of a violin for the public, but it is a true problem that a lot of students have that can impact their instrumental playing.

The main focus of this project is going to be around the misuse of instruments. Many people developed bad posture and it conflicted with their lives. There are various reasons as to why this is a problem.  When playing an instrument incorrectly, the sound quality can get altered. For instance, the sound produced by a violin may be out of tune or muffled if the strings are not pulled down firmly enough or the instrument is not correctly tuned. Physical discomfort can also result from playing an instrument incorrectly. Furthermore, poor posture while playing the piano can cause back or shoulder pain, while poor hand alignment while playing the guitar can result in repetitive strain injuries like carpal tunnel syndrome.

The identity aspect of this project is that people are not acting right when playing instruments, they often goof around and practically give up when practicing. Instead of continuing this, i believe that showing people that they are doing the wrong thing, and making the extremely obvious acts of playing the instrument wrong. I want to express real feelings as a person who plays the piano and plays music and sees how instruments are being treated.
