A portrait is a demonstration and representation of a person, or thing. A self portrait could be in forms such as a selfie or a picture of themselves from someone else’s perspective. It usually includes a person’s face which is only from the top of the head to around the shoulders. Some famous portraits of a person is Mona Lisa and Girl with a Pearl Earring. They both show the front of the face in which is clear and with clear lighting. It is possible to represent a person photographically without them being present in an image. They could be represented as something they feel closely connected to, or can show their face partially, with a mask to imply something else. Most portraits are one picture, and they are usually in high definition and clear to the audience.
Mona Lisa: As one of the most famous pieces of portraits in history, Mona Lisa is famous because of her smile in the picture when the portrait was painted by Leonardo Da Vinci. The backstory is also needed to express the reality of the picture when it was painted, so the audience can more clearly understand what is going on.
The girl with the pearl earrings: Painted by Johannes Vermeer, the iconic portrait was famous for the use of light, and the pitch black background in addition to the enigmatic gaze strikes the audience as a very bright and energetic person. Capturing light and darkness all in the same picture.
