Connect Identity Portraits

In this mindmap, I included all of the concepts regarding portrait, such as portrait without person, self-portrait, creative portraits, and abstract portraits. Moreover,  I have inspired many photographers who are experts in each type of photograph. For set 2, I want to use a portrait without people to express ideas about the danger of device usage. This is because I am really passionate about device usage, and I hope this project reminds the audience about device usage.

My father's memories - Can you capture the soul of a beloved person? How can you move away from the physical aspect of someone in order to pin down his essence? Can we get to the marrow, in spite of the layers of experiences, shared history and thus despite obvious bias?

Inspired Photographer: Tom teodosijev

He is a great photographer who can reveal certain messages in portraits without using an actual person. Therefore, he will give me a lot of support when I only use objects to remind danger of digital device usage.

Mood Board: There aren’t specific moods for this photo because it is just to remind people about digital devices, not to make someone feel bad/happy/despair or something else.

Statement of intent:

The title of this project is ‘Danger of Digitial Devices’ As you can tell from the title, I want to talk about the danger of the usage of Digital devices. Thus, I want to use this project to remind the audience about the danger of the usage by including the digital devices in my photography. Also, Tom teodosijev, is a pro photographer that makes portraits only using objects, and he is a pro because he reveals the message that he wants to share in his works. Therefore, from his work, I am able to learn how to reveal my message in a portrait without people

Inspired Photographer: Tom teodosijev

My father's memories - Can you capture the soul of a beloved person? How can you move away from the physical aspect of someone in order to pin down his essence? Can we get to the marrow, in spite of the layers of experiences, shared history and thus despite obvious bias?

Tom teodosijev is a great photographer who only uses objects in his portrait to describe his message about the photo. For example, when his father passed away, he wanted to have a portrait of his father, but since his father cannot be in the photo, so he used his father’s things to describe and remember his father. Therefore, his skills to show the message using objects will help me when I take my photos.

CREATE & CRITIQUE

In order to take the photos I want, I need digital devices because my topic on this project is the danger of digital devices, and I need several types of them in order to have variation in my photos, this includes phones, TVs, Ipads, computers and etc. I will be setting the devices with each other and try to reveal my issue, for this, my inspired photographer, Tom teodosijev will help me. For this photo, the location would be a location with no unique background, this is because the focus of the photo should lead to the devices, but not the background. Also, I hope the tone of the photo is bright and light to easily identify the devices. Therefore, if I use those things, I will be able to better reveal the danger of digital devices.

When I take those 30 photos, I tried many different factors to show the variation in the photo.

  1. The variety of combinations of digital devices. Since I had a limited amount of digital devices, I had to have several combinations of the devices.  For example, some of the photos have a phone+computer, and some other photos have computer+ TV.
  2. Formation of the devices. In some of the photos, the devices are upside down or tilted to the right and left. This is because I need to have variation, so by modifying the formation, I could have a new photo.
  3. Changing Background. Some of the photos will have different backgrounds so that I can have diverse photographs

Contact Sheet:

When I take these photos, I am inspired by Tom teodosijev. This is because most of the photos have the feature that my photographer used. For example, the subjects in the photo represent a certain topic, in this case, the subjects are digital devices, so it delivers an idea of the danger of digital devices. Also, the variation of the photographs was possible because of the many different factors including different backgrounds, formations, devices and etc. The photos are all in a bright tone so that the audience can effectively talk about the issue. Thus, I have taken these photos in the style of the Tom teodosijev.

Blue (24):

There are 24 blue photos. Those blue photos are chosen because they showed my vision. To be more specific, those photos include various digital devices as the subjects of the photographs to describe the issue that I want to talk about, which is the inspiration from my photographer, Tom teodosijev. Also, in order to have those variations, I changed many different things. One example was modifying the background but in this process, I had to be careful about the tone of the background because the tone had to be bright. Also, the background should not be unique so that all the attention only goes to the subjects.

Green (10):

There are 10 green photos. Obviously, those photographs showed my vision of this project, which is showing the danger of digital devices in portraits with only using the objects. My vision also includes a bright tone and various formations, and those photos have these elements. Also, those photos include many different types of devices, which helps the audience to better understand the topic because more devices mean that the photo is emphasizing the devices, which is the issue for this project.  Also, in order to give further variation, to some of the photos, I turned the devices on to, even more, emphasize the devices and the issue.

Red (3):

The photos that are chosen for red have the message of the danger of digital devices, this is expressed through the skill of Tom teodosijev about object portrait. This skill is expressing a certain meaning using the objects that have relation to the certain meaning, which will help the audience to identify the purpose of the photos. Also, the creativity that I learned in previous classes helped me to have variation in photos. There are things that I did well in those photos, which are the formation and variety of the devices. The formation of the devices is very artistic, making the quality of the photo higher. Also, we can see many different devices in these photos, helping the audience to better and quickly understand the purpose. However, the biggest strength is that these photos really showed my vision, which is making the audience realize the danger of digital devices. To develop the photos, I think I can make the tone of the photos brighter so that the audience can easily identify the purpose and the subjects of the photos. If I had a chance to do another set, I would’ve done a set regarding quarantine because recently I am very interested in quarantines due to the Covid-19.

Favorite Photo:

When I see this photo, I wanted the audience’s eyes to go to the subjects of the photograph, which are phones, computers, and an Ipad, and since the background is so normal and does not get the focus, my eyes only go to the subjects. Those subjects well reveal the purpose of the photographs so, my exposure is correct. But still, I made a distracting element, which is the tone of the photo some parts of the subjects are a little bit dark, which is not what I wanted the subjects to look like. Also, the composition and the balance of the subjects look really artistic, making the quality of the photo higher. Though I made some mistakes with the tone, the color still looks good. Also, the depth of field fits my photo, so the photo has well-shown the danger of the digital devices, without using any people. The vision is very clear due to the usage of many different devices. Lastly since the photo included clear vision, so when the audience look at this photo, they will rethink about the usage of the digital devices, which means that the photograph will spread the idea of the danger of the digital devices.
