“Tear of Sexism”                                      “Despair”                                                    “How to live a life”

Intent: Same with the vision of set 1. I want to mainly express the depression and despair emotion that people can feel from sexism. Therefore, I want the audience to realize the emotion of the people who are getting discriminated against and unrespected by sexism and try to solve the problem. I will be mainly inspired by the photographer named Ralph Eugene Meatyard who is a great photographer who can effectively utilize the blur and close-up to express very sad and despairing feelings.

The first photo is called “Tear of Sexism” because the subject of this photo is a girl that crying,  and she is crying because of the discrimination caused by sexism. The second photo is called ” Despair” because, from the pose of the subject, we can be the despairing emotion of the people getting discriminated against by sexism. The last photo is called “How to live a life”. This is because the two women in the photo are bowing their heads, which is because they are getting discriminated against by sexism.

To show this intent through photographs, I tried many different elements. One of the ways is using blur and close-up techniques because my inspired photographer used blur and close-up to show negative emotions and it worked really well, so I also made blur and close-up. Also, to develop the idea of my intent, I used a dark tone, which has the potential meaning of negative emotion. Similarly, I also used negative-looking poses to make the audience easily identify the purpose of the photographs. Lastly, after I took those three photographs, I realized that “How to live a life” is relatively brighter than the other two photos, so I used Affinity Photo to make the photo a little bit darker so that the combination of those three photographs looks good, and maximize the intent.

Presentation

I want to make the diagram like this because of several reasons. First, I placed “Tear of Sexism” in the middle because after the set for this project, I thought this photo is the most successful photo that reached my vision because of its great pose, tone, and technique. Also, each end of the photo is not white because my photographs should not have much bright color which reveals positive emotion because I want to have a dark tone so that the photographs reveal negative emotions. However, I still left some white parts between photos because since those photos have a similar tone, if those photographs were connected, it will be difficult for the audience to recognize each photo. Also, I made the left photo a little bit darker because it was relatively bright, and to make the combination of those three photos look better. In the process of making this diagram, Ralph Eugene Meatyard helped me a lot because he gave me some support to take those photos.

Critique

Most of the elements in the photographs support the purpose of the issue that I want to talk about, which is sexism, and also show the emotion in the photo. For example, the tone of the photo is very dark, which can trigger negative emotion about sexism. Also, the pose of the subjects looks really sad and depressed, making the audience realize the emotion of being discriminated against. However, in one of the photos, the subject is wearing white clothes which do not fit the purpose of the photo. When we see those pictures, our eyes go to the subject and the dark tone of the photo, which is what I wanted because those two things significantly make the audience feel the negative emotion about sexism. However, there is still some distraction in these photos. One example is that some of the photos are too dark to identify the subject, making really hard to find the purpose. Thus, the elements, such as tone, pose, and techniques support the audience to realize the purpose of the photos, which is the emotion that is caused by sexism. Lastly, since the elements are used so effectively the audience can easily and quickly identify the purpose of the photos, which will eventually make the audience to stop sexism.

Set 2

Connect Identity Portraits

In this mindmap, I included all of the concepts regarding portrait, such as portrait without person, self-portrait, creative portraits, and abstract portraits. Moreover,  I have inspired many photographers who are experts in each type of photograph. For set 2, I want to use a portrait without people to express ideas about the danger of device usage. This is because I am really passionate about device usage, and I hope this project reminds the audience about device usage.

My father's memories - Can you capture the soul of a beloved person? How can you move away from the physical aspect of someone in order to pin down his essence? Can we get to the marrow, in spite of the layers of experiences, shared history and thus despite obvious bias?

Inspired Photographer: Tom teodosijev

He is a great photographer who can reveal certain messages in portraits without using an actual person. Therefore, he will give me a lot of support when I only use objects to remind danger of digital device usage.

Mood Board: There aren’t specific moods for this photo because it is just to remind people about digital devices, not to make someone feel bad/happy/despair or something else.

Statement of intent:

The title of this project is ‘Danger of Digitial Devices’ As you can tell from the title, I want to talk about the danger of the usage of Digital devices. Thus, I want to use this project to remind the audience about the danger of the usage by including the digital devices in my photography. Also, Tom teodosijev, is a pro photographer that makes portraits only using objects, and he is a pro because he reveals the message that he wants to share in his works. Therefore, from his work, I am able to learn how to reveal my message in a portrait without people

RESPOND

Inspired Photographer: Tom teodosijev

My father's memories - Can you capture the soul of a beloved person? How can you move away from the physical aspect of someone in order to pin down his essence? Can we get to the marrow, in spite of the layers of experiences, shared history and thus despite obvious bias?

Tom teodosijev is a great photographer who only uses objects in his portrait to describe his message about the photo. For example, when his father passed away, he wanted to have a portrait of his father, but since his father cannot be in the photo, so he used his father’s things to describe and remember his father. Therefore, his skills to show the message using objects will help me when I take my photos.

CREATE & CRITIQUE

In order to take the photos I want, I need digital devices because my topic on this project is the danger of digital devices, and I need several types of them in order to have variation in my photos, this includes phones, TVs, Ipads, computers and etc. I will be setting the devices with each other and try to reveal my issue, for this, my inspired photographer, Tom teodosijev will help me. For this photo, the location would be a location with no unique background, this is because the focus of the photo should lead to the devices, but not the background. Also, I hope the tone of the photo is bright and light to easily identify the devices. Therefore, if I use those things, I will be able to better reveal the danger of digital devices.

When I take those 30 photos, I tried many different factors to show the variation in the photo.

  1. The variety of combinations of digital devices. Since I had a limited amount of digital devices, I had to have several combinations of the devices.  For example, some of the photos have a phone+computer, and some other photos have computer+ TV.
  2. Formation of the devices. In some of the photos, the devices are upside down or tilted to the right and left. This is because I need to have variation, so by modifying the formation, I could have a new photo.
  3. Changing Background. Some of the photos will have different backgrounds so that I can have diverse photographs

Contact Sheet:

Untitled <– Contact sheet

When I take these photos, I am inspired by Tom teodosijev. This is because most of the photos have the feature that my photographer used. For example, the subjects in the photo represent a certain topic, in this case, the subjects are digital devices, so it delivers an idea of the danger of digital devices. Also, the variation of the photographs was possible because of the many different factors including different backgrounds, formations, devices and etc. The photos are all in a bright tone so that the audience can effectively talk about the issue. Thus, I have taken these photos in the style of the Tom teodosijev.

Blue (24):

There are 24 blue photos. Those blue photos are chosen because they showed my vision. To be more specific, those photos include various digital devices as the subjects of the photographs to describe the issue that I want to talk about, which is the inspiration from my photographer, Tom teodosijev. Also, in order to have those variations, I changed many different things. One example was modifying the background but in this process, I had to be careful about the tone of the background because the tone had to be bright. Also, the background should not be unique so that all the attention only goes to the subjects.

Green (10):

There are 10 green photos. Obviously, those photographs showed my vision of this project, which is showing the danger of digital devices in portraits with only using the objects. My vision also includes a bright tone and various formations, and those photos have these elements. Also, those photos include many different types of devices, which helps the audience to better understand the topic because more devices mean that the photo is emphasizing the devices, which is the issue for this project.  Also, in order to give further variation, to some of the photos, I turned the devices on to, even more, emphasize the devices and the issue.

Red (3):

The photos that are chosen for red have the message of the danger of digital devices, this is expressed through the skill of Tom teodosijev about object portrait. This skill is expressing a certain meaning using the objects that have relation to the certain meaning, which will help the audience to identify the purpose of the photos. Also, the creativity that I learned in previous classes helped me to have variation in photos. There are things that I did well in those photos, which are the formation and variety of the devices. The formation of the devices is very artistic, making the quality of the photo higher. Also, we can see many different devices in these photos, helping the audience to better and quickly understand the purpose. However, the biggest strength is that these photos really showed my vision, which is making the audience realize the danger of digital devices. To develop the photos, I think I can make the tone of the photos brighter so that the audience can easily identify the purpose and the subjects of the photos. If I had a chance to do another set, I would’ve done a set regarding quarantine because recently I am very interested in quarantines due to the Covid-19.

Favorite Photo:

When I see this photo, I wanted the audience’s eyes to go to the subjects of the photograph, which are phones, computers, and an Ipad, and since the background is so normal and does not get the focus, my eyes only go to the subjects. Those subjects well reveal the purpose of the photographs so, my exposure is correct. But still, I made a distracting element, which is the tone of the photo some parts of the subjects are a little bit dark, which is not what I wanted the subjects to look like. Also, the composition and the balance of the subjects look really artistic, making the quality of the photo higher. Though I made some mistakes with the tone, the color still looks good. Also, the depth of field fits my photo, so the photo has well-shown the danger of the digital devices, without using any people. The vision is very clear due to the usage of many different devices. Lastly since the photo included clear vision, so when the audience look at this photo, they will rethink about the usage of the digital devices, which means that the photograph will spread the idea of the danger of the digital devices.

CREATE & CRITIQUE Set 1

1 Plan your shoot

To make my photo perfect, I need tools to adjust the tone of the place where I take pictures and a camera that can adjust the focus. This is because, for this project, I am going to use blur or zoom in/out and tone to express the sad emotion of sexism. Also, I believe my vision is really clear so, I think would easily take photos. Also, since I cannot use the studio, I will find a place where I can change the tone of the place. The costume I want for this project is a colored costume and the color of the costume should have negative emotions such as purple, gray, black and etc.

This is one of the designs, I choose to do for this project. The person in the photo is a woman to show that sexism makes a depressed mood. Also, the pose will also help to make the photo look depressed. Also, the person should wear dark-colored clothes, which have a negative mood.

2. The Experiment: I tried many different poses, angles, places, and camera settings to make diverse types of the photo, and used either close-up or blur to show abstraction, which are my techniques for this project. Furthermore, I also used different subjects to show the variation in the photographs.

Contact Sheets: Contact Sheet

When I take these photographs, I am very inspired by the photographer Ralph Eugene Meatyard, this is shown in most of my photographs because similar to Ralph Eugene Meatyard’s work, there is a dark tone, and also the emotions from the photographs are negative, including depressed, despair, sadness, etc.  Furthermore, the images are taken using the techniques: of blur and focus. Those techniques are shown in the pictures because Ralph Eugene Meatyard also used those two techniques to show the feeling of the image. For example, there are photos that have a boy and a girl, but only the boy is in focus and the girl is in a blur, showing the discrimination regarding sex, which will make the audience feel bad when they see these photos. Moreover, those photos have many variations because I used different poses, different places, different angles and etc.

Blue photos (18):

The blue photos are 18 photos that somehow represent my vision. To be more specific, those blue photos have negative emotions about sexism by using the pose of the subject, the tone of the photo, the techniques used in the photo, or the negative color of the costume, which is one of the parts of my vision. However, some of those blue photos couldn’t be green or red photos because the green and red photos used better usage of the inspiration from Ralph Eugene Meatyard, and they did a better job in showing off how bad sexism is.

Green photos (9)

There is a total of 9 green photos. Those green photos became green because those photos well-represent my vision for this set. For this set, I wanted to use blur and close-up techniques to reflect the negative emotion of sexism. This can be reflected by putting blurs or close-up of a girl because if I do like this, it will be hard to identify the identity of that girl, showing discrimination toward females. Also, there are many elements that will help to make those negative emotions, such as poses that reveal sadness or depression, and the dark tone of the photo that makes the feeling of the photo despair. Furthermore, I wanted to make the photo feel negative like Ralph Eugene Meatyard, who used blur and focus techniques to show negative, and for this green photo, I did it.

Red photos (3) I did this in the contact sheet because those three photos have differences. Red photo

My favorite photo:

When I first see this photo, my eyes first goes to the pose of the subject because the pose of the subject really fits my vision, it looks very miserable and sad, showing negative emotions about sexism. This shows that my exposure is correct because this is how I wanted the photo to be. However, I still made some distracting elements because I broke some rules in photography. This includes the rules of third, which means, one out of three-part is the subject, but for this, almost half of the photo is the subject, so it will be better if the photo had a further focal point so that it does not break the rule. Though I broke some rules, including this rule, still it looks good because of the good usage of many factors. This includes the creepy and dark background, which forms negative emotions about sexism. Also, the usage of the color in this photo is very accurate, such as the dark-tone clothes that the subject wear reveals sadness. Also, the depth of field, balance, and composition of the photo definitely fits the photo because those are accurate, the photo revealed what it suppose to be revealing. Therefore, since this photo reached my vision, when the audiences have a look at this photo, they will think negatively about sexism, making them try to eliminate sexism, which is exactly what I want the audiences to feel.

Responding

Photographer: Ralph Eugene Meatyard

There are many great photos taken by a great photographer named Ralph Eugene Meatyard, and his photos include many negative emotions. To be more specific, most of his photos express despair emotions by adjusting the pose of the subject and the tone of the entire picture. Also, one of the techniques he uses in his photographs is a blur, he uses blur in the subject’s face, forming creepy and negative emotions. Additionally, he uses focus in his photographs, to be specific, he usually has a person as a subject and the background usually becomes blurred in order to make the direct focus and unfocus.

Therefore, the reason why I chose this photographer is that he has the concept that I want to do in my project. Since the main issue that I want to talk about in my project is sexism, the photography should first include negative emotions. This is because sexism has been one of the biggest issues in the world and it is happening everywhere, so the photography should have negative emotions, such as sadness, despair, and depression. Also, this photographer is very talented at forming negative emotions in his photos, so I chose him because his work will inspire me a lot to form negative emotions. Moreover, the technique I want to use in this project is blur and focus, and I believe he is also good at utilizing focus and blur in his works, which will also help me when I take my photos. Lastly, I chose this photographer because he is a very talented photographer who can use blur and focus in his work and form negative emotions, which is exactly the same as my plan for this project.

The upper four photographs are from Ralph Eugene Meatyard. The main similarity is that all the photos are in low and negative moods, especially in the third and fourth photos, the face of the people/person in the photo looks very depressed and despairing, forming negative emotions in these photos. Furthermore, the common techniques that Ralph Eugene Meatyard uses are focus and tone. First of all, Ralph Eugene Meatyard well-utilizes focus-related skills such as zoom-in and blur to express a low mood. Also, as you can tell from the photos, Ralph Eugene Meatyard well-utilizes tone to reveal depression in the photo.

Critique:

Image result for ralph eugene meatyard photosOut of those four photos, I think the photo well-represent my goal for this set. The subject of this photo is those two boys who are looking depressed. Also, we can notice that there look depressed because of their pose and facial expression, the photographer’s well-chosen pose and facial expression express depression. Also, since I cannot use the studio, I will mostly take photos at home, but I will still try to make the tone of the home dark so that the place can express depression, just like the place in this photo. Also, one of the characteristics of this place is that it looks very old, so I would also try to make my place look old. Also, the main theme exposed in this photo is depression which fits the issue that I want to talk about, which is sexism. The author’s point of view in this photo is a sad emotion. Also, the eyes are in the middle of the photos which fits one of the rules of a portrait. The most-utilized element in this photo is color and focus. The colors in this photo are white and black so that the photo can express negative emotions. Also, since the pose of the children are in focus, so we can feel that the pose of the children standout. I also like the style of the photo which is forming negative emotion. Using all the things above, the photographer wanted the audience to feel bad after looking at this photo. Therefore, I will try to follow what he did for his work in my work so that I can reveal negative emotion using the abstraction.

Portraiture unit

I believe that the portraits are the photographs with the subject of a creature’s body part, and it is one of the ways to reveal emotions based on the author’s opinion using people’s parts. Also, the most important rule in taking portrait photographs is that there are no rules. For example, there are no rules for posing, the pose can be natural or very unique. Also, in terms of lighting, the lighting can be natural or studio, and the tone of the light can be diverse. However, when the author changes those environments, the audiences feel differently so, so the author should be careful to effectively reveal their opinions.

Furthermore, selfies portraits can also be portraits because it is still taking a picture of the creatures’ part. However, the author should be careful with the mood of the photographs because the mood significantly affects how the audience sees the portrait and what they learn from the portraits. For example, in the photo below, this photography is a selfie portrait because it is a selfie and the parts of people are shown in this photo. Also, the mood of this photo is happy which is the intent of the author and by this, the audience can also be happy.

.

I don’t think there is anything that shouldn’t be included in pictures, but there are some things to do to make better portraits. For example, to make good photos, the authors should consist of the message of the pictures because if there is no message, the picture is meaningless. For example, the first portrait has a message of despair through the usage of the despair action of the person. Also, there are many techniques that authors can use to make the portrait better, and one example is the focus so when they take photos, there can set the direction on the eyes and put the blur on the background for a more direct subject. The second photo shows a great example of the usage of the technique of focus, and the face, especially the eyes, are in focus and the background is in a blur to emphasize the author’s idea.

Also, the types of portraits are very diverse, so even a close-up of a hand can be a portrait since there are no inaccurate photos. For example, this portrait here is only showing only some parts of the body but it is still expressing the message of sexism very effectively.

Furthermore, even a ripped, blured, torn, and faded object can be a portrait when the purpose of the portrait can be revealed by the abstraction.  For example, if the purpose of the portrait is related to despair, the author can use either torn or faded to effectively reveal the purpose.

Also, one can be described in a portrait without them being present in the portrait by the use of one’s characteristics. Each person has characteristics that make up that person, so if describe all those characteristics in the portrait, I am describing one specific person. For example, the items below represent my hobby, job, and identity, so even though I am not in the photo, I am described in this photo.

Also, I think the portrait is one photograph, and the sequence of images is just portraits.

Task 1:

In this mindmap, I included all of the concepts regarding portrait, such as portrait without person, self-portrait, creative portraits, and abstract portraits. Moreover,  I have inspired many photographers who are experts in each type of photograph. Also, as you can tell from the middle part of the mindmap, the main idea I want to talk about is sexism in my projects. This is because I am emotionally passionate about this topic and I want to reveal the negative aspect of sexism in my photographs. Also, I want the audience to realize that sexism is bad. The place I want to take photos is anywhere I can adjust the tone of the photo and the focus, because those two techniques are important for me in this project.

Task 2: I will be using both techniques of close-up and blur to express the sexism in today’s society. This is because discrimination against women has existed for a long time. This is one of the most severe problems in our society, and also I am very passionate so I will make the audience realize how lousy sexism is using this project.

Task 3:  Inspired Photographer: Ralph Eugene Meatyard

First of all, Ralph Eugene Meatyard is a famous blur photographer who is also famous for forming negative emotions in his photographs. As you can tell from the photos above, the photographer used blur techniques in these photographs, and the photos express negative and sad emotions because of the dark tone in the photo. Therefore, I chose this great photographer because first, since I am going to use the blur technique so, this photographer will support me a lot for good usage of a blur. Also, since the issue that I want to describe in the photo is sexism so, the photographs should include negative and sad emotions because the topic of this photograph is very sad, and since this photographer’s photographs reveal sadness so, it will also give me a lot of help.

Task 4: Mood Board

As you can tell from those mood board pictures, the photographs are all negative, such as emotions of despair, sadness, loneliness, hopelessness, and depression. The reason why all the photos are negative is that during my process of this project I want to express the emotion of sexism, which is quite negative. Also, those photos will help me to figure out how to express negative emotions in the portraits.

Task 5: Statement of intent:

The title of my project is “The emotion of sexism” because, throughout my project, I want to mainly express the depression and despair emotion that people can feel from sexism. Also, I will be inspired by the photographs I used for the Mood board because there are many good photos with great demonstrations of negative emotions.

Final presentation

The Beauty of Abstraction     <– photos

This is my triptych for my abstract unit. This triptych contains one of the best photos in my set 1 and set 2, the left photo is the blue photo from set 1, and the photos in the middle and right are my red photos for set 2. The reason why I chose those 3 photos was that they all effectively revealed the abstraction. Also, to make the photos collaborate better, I wanted to make the tone similar, so I modified the middle photo greener. Moreover, the tree photo is in the middle because I believe that this photo looks really nice. Also, for the left picture, even though it was a blue photo, I still chose it because at first I really liked the middle and right photos, so I tried to find a photo that would well-collaborate with the two photographs that I wanted, and this blue photo was it.

I chose to make the title “The Beauty of Abstraction” because of the message of the three photos and the look of the photos. First, the message, when I started my sets, the techniques for each set referred to the idea of abstraction. For instance, I chose the blur technique for my first set, which can effectively reveal abstraction, which is hardly recognizing the subject in the photo. Also, for the second set, I decided on a close-up technique that allows audiences to see only a tiny part of the subject, making abstraction. Therefore, I added “Abstraction” in the title. Second, the look of the photos, as you can tell from the photos, they all look beautiful, so I also added: “The Beauty” in the title. Eventually, the title became “The Beauty of Abstraction.”

Final Evaluation The Beauty of Abstraction

There were mainly two photographers who inspired me for this triptych, Ernest Huss and Edwin Giesbers. For the left photo, it was the first set and the inspired photographer was Ernst Huss, he inspired me about how to take abstract blurred photos. When he takes blurred photographs, he added blur in both subject and background, so this is the reason the left has blur on both the subject and the background. Also, the rest of the two photos are the second set, and the inspired photographer was Edwin Giesbers. He helped me with what should I use for the subject. He usually used plants and animals as the subject for his close-up photos. Therefore, I also used the subject he usually uses for his work: plants. For this triptych, I tried many different orders and different photos. First, for orders, I tried many different formations for the order of the triptych, and eventually, I chose this order because I think the most beautiful one should be in the middle of the order. Also, for different photos, I originally wanted to put a photo of a pink flower instead of the left photo but I did not because when I put all three of them together, they did not collaborate, and also in peer feedback, my peers said that the photos I chose for triptych look well together. Then, I put three of them together, and I realized that the tone of those three was slightly different, so I used affinity to make the middle more green. When triptych, the main idea was the collaboration of the three photos should look well with each other. Also, this was the reason why I adjusted the greenish tone to the middle photo. Also, when I take the left photo, I stick tape on my camera lens, and then took a photo, and for the middle and right photos, I zoom in 10 times to reveal abstraction and close-up technique. I think the strongest strength of my triptych is the beautiful collaboration of those three photos because I worked a lot to reveal beauty. The area that I will need to work on in future projects is being familiar with the affinity because for this triptych, I only used affinity in the middle one, and I believe that if I learn more about affinity, I can adjust features to the other photos, which will make it much better.

Whole Set 2

Title: Beauty of Zoom-In photography

In Inset 1 I did blurred photography which was a good experience and for set 2 I am planning to take zoom-in photographs. The message/goal of my zoom-in photographs is to make the audience realize the truth that the zoom-in photographs can be beautiful and to take zoom-in photos after looking at my photos and express abstraction throughout the photo. Also, I will be using many different subjects in the photographs.  So, I will make the audience feel surprised by the beauty of the zoom-in photographs. I will be inspired by famous zoom-in photographers. Also, the photographer I chose will be using many different types of subjects in his/her photos. Lastly, I hope I can learn more about the zoom-in photos and in the end, I hope people who look at my photos also learn the zoom-in photos.

Inspired Photographer: Edwin Giesbers

Edwin Giesbers is a famous dutch photographer who takes close-up photos like 12 photos. The first characteristic of his work is that there are many different subjects. For example, when he takes pictures, he sets many different creatures, including animals and plants, as a subject. Another characteristic of the photographs is that he gives focuses on subjects such as animals and plants and gives a non-focus on the background. To be more specific, if you take a look at the top right corner photo, the focus is on the plant and non-focus on the background. The third characteristic is that the photographs are abstract. Since the photographs are using the focus in/close up technique, only a few parts of the subject are shown, so it is sometimes hard to recognize the subject. For example, the down-right corner photo is a photo of an animal but I cannot recognize what the animal is because the photo is closed up. Another characteristic of the photographs is that the photos are in a light tone. Specifically, as you can tell from the photos, none of them is in a dark tone. Lastly, when we look at his photographs, we can identify their beauty of them, which means that one of the messages of the photos is to reveal the beauty of the close-up photos. Therefore, I chose this artist because he has a similar vision in the photographs. To be more specific, I want to take close-up photos using diverse subjects, and I also want to show abstraction throughout the photographs. These ideas are similar to Edwin Giesbers’ idea. Moreover, I hope my message in the photographs is to reveal the beauty of the close-up, and Edwin Giesbers also revealed the beauty of close-up photographs. I couldn’t find a quotation.

I chose this photo because it photo best represents my vision for set 2. Specifically, I want to make my photo abstract, and this photo is very abstract because of the use of close-up. I was surprised by the abstraction of the photography because since the photograph is closed up very much so, I cannot even identify the subject of the photo. Since the technique of this photograph is close up, the main element of the photo is the focus because the photo is focused on the subject in this photo. The first important feature of this photo is that the photo is using close-up photos to represent the abstraction of the photo which is part of my vision. The second important feature is that the message of the photo seems to be showing the beauty of the photo, which is similar to my vision because the photo is showing the beauty throughout the photo. If you look at the photo, you can see the abstraction which is you cannot identify the subject easily and this is also because of the close-up technique. I like this photo because it has all my vision in it; it is abstract by the close-up technique and it reveals the beauty of the close-up photos. This will inspire me when I take photos. To be more specific, I will make the subject of the photo unclear and I will make my photo show the beauty of the close-up photos.

In my first vision, I did not specify the different types of subjects and the artist by that I will be inspired.

My vision is to take photos that have a theme of beauty, this means that the photographs that I will be taking for this set will express beauty by themselves, and when audiences look at them, they will be surprised by the beauty of the photographs. I will take photos in the style of Edwin Giesbers which is the close-up technique. When I take photos, the subjects will be closed up, which can help the photo to be more abstract. Also, the subjects of the photos will be diverse and they will be either plants or animals because those two subjects are the subjects that Edwin Giesbers used for his photographs. Furthermore

As you can tell from the photographs, the subjects of the photos will be closed up to reveal abstraction. In the first and third photos, the author focused on the abstraction and the technique (zoom-in),  the photos are closed up a lot, forming abstraction. Similar to the second, it has plenty of usage of the technique and also an abstraction. Also, all of those photos are forming beauty. Thus, those photos fit my goal, so my photographs will look similar to those photos.

Blue photos:

For blue photos, I think I can say that all my photos are blue because they all somehow represent my vision. To be more specific, my vision for this set was to make close-up photos with a message of beauty and to express abstraction. As you can tell from the photos, the photos are close-up, forming an abstraction about the subject of the photos. For example, for the photo with a big eye, used the technique of the close-up, and since it is closed up, we cannot identify who that person is. Also, the photos are all beautiful due to the usage of the close-up technique. Additionally, similar to my inspired photographer, Edwin Giesbers, the subjects that I used for my photographs are all plants/animals.

Green photos (10): Green photo for set 2

For green photos, I chose 10 photos out of the blue photos. My photos were all inspired by the photographer, Edwin Giesbers, about the usage of the close-up technique and the subjects that were used for those photos. Also, I chose those photographs to represent my vision, especially the message and the abstraction. The message I chose to express was showing the beauty of the close-up photos, and I feel like all these green photos are beautiful with the usage of the zoom-in technique. Also, the abstraction of the green photos is stronger than the blue photos, which also helps the audience to realize the beauty of close up. Additionally, those photos show diverse types of elements, such as texture, focus, and shape, which effectively reveal beauty from it.

Red photos (3): Red photo contact sheet <– Include Critique

For red photos, I chose 3 out of the green photos, and they are the photographs that best represent my vision. When I take this photo, I used 10 times zoom skills on my phone to take photos. Obviously, those photographs are all forming abstraction due to the well-utilized technique. Also, they are all beautiful due to the usage of the technique which is also another vision for my set 2. Also, just like Edwin Giesbers, I used diverse plants and animals. Also, all of those red photos emphasized specific elements, such as texture, focus, and shape, all those elements made the level of the photos higher. Overall, the best part of those red photos is the beautiful collaboration of the different types of techniques and the technique. Also, similar to my vision, when the audiences look at these photos, they could realize the beauty in them. Lastly, in order to further develop my photos, I could’ve even more zoom in, to highlight the abstraction of the photos, so if I had an alternate chance, I would zoom more. However, I am still happy with my photos which well-reveal the beauty of close-up.

Revise your vision for Set 2

Select an artist and Respond to an image for Set 2

Edwin Giesbers

Moreover, I hope my message of the photographs is to reveal the beauty of the close-up, and Edwin Giesbers also revealed the beauty of close-up photographs.

The first important feature about this photo is that the photo is using close-up photos to represent the abstraction of the photo which is part of my vision. To be more specific, I will make the subject of the photo unclear and I will make my photo to show the beauty of the close-up photos.

Set 2 Vision

Title: Beauty of Zoom-In photography

In set 1 I did blurred photography which was a good experience and for set 2 I am planning to take zoom-in photographs. The message/goal of my zoom-in photographs is to make the audience realize the truth that the zoom-in photographs can be beautiful and to take zoom-in photos after looking at my photos and express abstraction throughout the photo. Also, I will be using many different subjects in the photographs.  So, I will make the audience feel surprised about the beauty of the zoom-in photographs. I will be inspired by famous zoom-in photographers. Also, the photographer I chose will be using many different types of subjects in his/her photos. Lastly, I hope I can learn more about the zoom-in photos and in the end, I hope people who look at my photos also learn the zoom-in photos.
