On the Sidewalk Bleeding by Evan Hunter
The main character in Evan Hunter’s short story entitled “On the Sidewalk Bleeding” Initially believes that being a royal is a privilege, but later understands it’s an indignant curse. His changing understanding is revealed through the use of symbolism, setting, and internal thought.

Design, to me, is the production or enhancement of a product that improves aspects of daily life. My goals in design are to improve my skills in building and designing objects/products, and familiarizing myself with new tools. I have interests in architectural, interior, and product design. My skills in design include using Fusion 360 and Adobe Illustrator.
I used a style that I wanted to resemble Elena Rossato’s style, which displays vibrant, and occasionally, psychedelic colours. Her work generally uses two primary colours: Blue and red, which I wanted to replicate.
The design started with a white outline, that traced all differences in light and visible bones. They also placed borders on the face, which I would use to plan out the process. On the first day, I completed the outline and tested some brushes. I experimented with colour palettes and different pens and brushes and came to the conclusion of using green, blue, and yellow as this poster’s primary skin and background colours. The hair would remain black. The second day, I completed the eye, cheek, and part of the upper lip. On the final day, I finished the nose, ears, chin and mouth. I used the pen “Studio Pen” for the whole process because I thought its sleek and flowing-like lines were what was best for the person poster.
I think this style reflects me because I love oil paintings. I also find music, stories, and art with deeper meanings another thing that I enjoy, something with open interpretation, and I think this style of art Initially, I wanted to use skin colours for my persona poster, although I thought that would remove the aesthetic I wanted to achieve. As a result, I chose blue, which according to plan, would later be complemented with yellow and green.
I think the success of my persona poster was substandard. I didn’t complete the persona poster on time, and half of the face wasn’t finalized. If I were to redo the project, I would spend less time planning and more time working. I probably should’ve chose a less detail-demanding style to draw with. I left most of the face incomplete, and some areas that needed minor adjusting. (The nose for example) If I used a larger pen size and less variety in colour, the process would have been much faster. However, if it were concluded, the poster would certainly represent me as an individual.
Leather Design Challenge
During the summer, my gum experienced a few problems. Because the gum sat under the sun for so long, the texture became soft and too tenuous. Some even melted or split apart. In addition, the case got ripped and malformed the gum pieces. My product provides a good solution, by insulating the gum packet, and protecting it from heat. It also protects it from getting ripped by keys or cards. During this assignment, I had learned how to sow using a sewing machine, something I previously had no experience in, although it turned out much harder than I had anticipated. If I could start from the beginning again, I would add the buttons and pins first, before I sew. I also should have understood how the buttons ad pins worked before trying them completely blind. I think the sowing was the part I struggled with most because the amount of pressure placed on the foot press must be stable at all times. I also found it challenging, because I couldn’t keep up with the pace of the machine at some points, which resulted in large mounds of string. However, that didn’t stop it from being a decent product. The entire holder is a single piece, not including the strap. That minimized scraps, glue, or additional sowing. Lastly, I’m proud of this product, because this was the first time I had tried using a sewing machine on leather, and what came out was not a total failure. And considering the design limitations, I’d say this product is pretty good!
In this product design unit, we were required to design a prototype of a tool capable of identifying smells. The design is labeled Design 3 on my design paper. My product, the Smellificator 2000, took inspiration from the Portal gun from Portal, a Sous Vide cooker, and Nitrous Oxide Canisters. The machine functions as a drone, as well as a gun. The bottom grip was designed to easily wrap around the user’s hand, as shown in image 1, for easy handling, and drone release. In addition, four propellers on all four sides and one rocket propel and control the drone, the propellers able to pivot on an axis. The first layer sucks in the smell and holds it within the fourth layer, and identifies it on the third layer. The data is then brought to the computer, the cylindrical object suspended on the first layer. The computer features an on-off button on the bottom, and a touch-pad screen on top, that displays all data and controls the entire machine. The battery is located in the middle of the machine, where the propellers are placed. To reach it, unscrew the bottom, and the battery is exposed. The gun can be used on the spot, to identify the smell. However, that won’t reveal its location. That’s what the drone is designed to do: track and locate the smell’s origin. The drone is deployed by throwing it into the air, rocket side down. There are 9 layers in total, 1-2 for sniffing, 3 to identify, 4 for smell storage, 5 for battery and propellers, 6-9 for the rocket.
This is the Diary of Rodrigo Morales, a 21-year-old college student, living in a wealthy family supported by their large sugarcane business. His home country Havana has experienced a chain of unsettling revolutions, although a new one is occurring, descending the nation in entropy. As a result, he must decide how to protect the nation’s serene beauty, before it’s all enveloped by chaos.
During this revolution, several things changed and continued. Two examples of continuity include 1. The government was again re-established with a military coup by rebels, similar to past military cups conducted by other leaders. 2. Sugar still accounts for most economic income of Cuba. Two examples of change include 1. Literacy and healthcare provided for all Cubans 2. The nationalization of agricultural production.
This Product design unit required me to design a laser-cut landscape, divided into several wooden layers, as contents within a 95 – 55 – 30 millimeter box. The box features a special location that we couldn’t visit due to Covid-19 related reasons. I occasionally visit cousins in Vancouver, British Columbia in the winter. However, The trip was unfortunately canceled due to the situation occurring. The environment I chose is in Manning National Park, Lighting Lake, a campsite we frequently go to during the remaining days of the visit. It’s a multicolored shed on an open field across a mountain range.
During this assignment, I learned several skills involved in the process of designing a lightbox. This includes merging objects, rounding edges, image tracing / expanding, and forming silhouettes from images. I used a software program known as Adobe Illustrator, which allowed me to laser-cut the lightbox. I also utilized websites, for example, the noun project for icons, and makecase
for the design of the initial box. I also received more practice in using acrylic paints, like using masking tape to isolate areas of the product, and blending colours.
There are several things I would like to change about the lightbox. I thought the initial box design was too complicated, and I despised some aspects of the design. I also wish I was less ambitious with the design because I had significantly greater plans that eventually were abandoned due to time issues. I would’ve estimated the amount of work, made reasonable assumptions of what I can do in that time, and started on level 1, and built it upwards from there. I also would’ve opted for a less dynamic box, because the repeating chains of etched layers seem too diorienting and strange for my tasting. Now, I think a more bare-bones, simple design would be nicer. Next, I think I’d blend more colours for the backround, using several colours rather than just one. Finally, I think I should’ve used more trees in the design, in less perfect shapes, so the natural aspect is more apparent. Imperfection is perfect.

Latin American Hagrid fights the Batista fashionista and his oversized hats. From foot fungus to gorilla warfare, and a communist uprising, the Cuban Revolution brought small Caribbean island to become a global threat of nuclear war. Great figures emerged from rural environments to become people capable of ending the world. Revolutions occur due to a significant imbalance between those with power and those without it. Those with unrestricted ability will manipulate it however they please, because those who lack ability cannot limit its growth, and so it eventually grows until the imbalance becomes so severe that people sacrifice everything because they have nothing left to sacrifice besides their own skin and bone. A pattern that I noticed with revolutions was the struggle for power. The opposing government was corrupted, which resulted in a revolt, which resulted in the creation of another corrupt government. It’s a perpetual cycle that produces death and desecration and provides only a brief moment when the world is at peace until the inevitable cycle rekindles its flame.

Presentation Paragraph
The 57 Bus, a nonfiction book by Dashka Slater, explores the concepts of racism, sexism, and classism 8 years before, in Oakland Califonia. The book describes two adolescent boys, one white and one black, with separate identities from separate environments. On a fateful journey from the middle-class foothills towards the drug plagued lower-class communities. On that bus, that black boy’s fatal decision would shape their lives forever. One theme of this book is that people deserve more forgiveness and opportunities to change, capable people will learn from their mistakes.
Two reasons you should read this book are 1) The author incorporates big topics still prevalent today, like sexism, racism, and classism, with good detail and a compelling and emotional story. 2) The book is engaging and dramatic, with scenes immersing you into the text, making you want to read more and more. It’s an inspirational story that makes you feel emotional about life and friendship.
Something I learned during this unit is that rereading can be beneficial towards understanding central ideas and themes. It can help find deeper meaning in areas not focused on before. I need to reread pages of the book to explore deeper knowledge and understanding. `
