The story fish cheeks has an external conflict which is character vs society. Inside the story, Amy Tan a Chinese girl who lived in America fell in love with an American. She wanted to integrate into the society but she found it hard because she isn’t an American. She was fighting through her family traditions. Amy didn’t like the Chinese traditional foods so she described her mother’s menu as ” a strange menu” and she described the foods as appalling and fleshy.  At last, after a  few years later, she had understand the true purpose of her mom. “For Christmas Eve that year, she had chosen all my favorite foods.”0068_001
