I think Egeus is a stubborn and cruel Dad. “I would my father look’d but with my eyes.” said Hermia (Shakespeare scene 1) Even though his daughter was in love with Lysander, he forced Hermia to marry Demetrius. Hermia was sad but she couldn’t disobey her father’s words. She really hoped that Egeus could listen and understand her. From this sentence, we can see the disappointment of Hermia to Egeus. Also, Egeus had said:”As she is mine, I may dispose her: Which shall be either to this gentleman or to her death, according to our law immediately provided in this case.” He is very cruel and he wanted to kill his daughter if she doesn’t marry Demetrius.
