- explanation
- In this presentation, I included a visualized model which shows different materials, along with different view sides. Also, I included the scale of the model in the side view. I also zoomed in the sticks that can change the size of the base.
- Ideas:
-
DP1: Apply design thinking practices to generate divergent ideas:
- Brainstorming

- I tried to make a high heel with wheels connected to it. This model is really har to recognize so I created the sketch below:

- In this way, it is a high heel that can roll with wheels. However, this is a rough idea and hard to create, and quite unsafe.
- Another Idea
- Due to the unsafety of the first draft, I then thought about the shoes I saw in my childhood: they have wheels inserted inside the shoe base, So I began to think what if I separate the wheels and the shoe so that it can be an ordinary shoe but also easily connected to wheels as if the wheels are “wearable”

- the first one is the bottom of a shoe, there can be a connection thing inserted
- the second is where the shoe can be connected, it has four wheels and is easy to connect
- the third is a how they were finally presented
- Decision
- I chose to develop the second idea instead of the high heel. It is a lot safer to wear, and what’s more important, I can only make out a base with wheels, so it seems like an interesting idea.
- Feedback
- Q: To connect the shoe to the wheels, all shoes have to have a special connection, so not all shoes are able to wear it.
- As a result, I decided to abandon the connection on the bottom. Instead, I think that all shoes can wear is really important. So, I want to make a shoe-like wheelbase that you can wear the shoe, then wear the shoe on the wheel shoe.
- Q: How do you realize the function of changing the size (after making out the 3d model below)
- I asked teachers from the design center for help. What I got is that I can have two sticks, one inside the other, and have holes on them. then make another small connection that can plug in the hole
- this is also showed in the video of model afterwards

- Model
- to visualize my idea, I use a 3d modeling app on iPad, here are some of my processes:
origin shoe base
creat the 3d base and add wheels
detailed the functions such as adding a brake, also having front and back blocks

- as I develop the model, I decided to add a function that makes it unique from other similar products, to be able to adjust the size. with the connection in the middle, it is able to change the length of the shoe by sliding the connections.
- some detail:
- 3d printing:
- after making out this digital model, I decided to print it out. However, to print the whole thing, I need to separate all the parts:

- I made sure to leave spaces for the error range of 3d printing so I did not need to make things wrong and re-print
- these are the separated parts:

- I connected them and glued some parts with hot glue

- these are some functions:
- when you want to stop, you move your core front, and the front brake can stop the shoe
- this is how to adjust the size of the base:
- technical and design skills:
- I learned to use a new app that helps my 3d modeling skills. Also, I tried 3d printing and understand how 3d printing works.
- Reflection
- This is a quite effective response to my idea – to make walking funner and faster. Although the 3d printed model is not actually wearable due to the weakness of the material, it is a strong model that is useable for really making out a product.
- I believe I did well in developing the idea into a visual model and was able to include all components that are needed in the shoe
- I didn’t have time and materials to create the lace for the model because of covid. I can try more materials next time and find more appropriate materials.
