How does Your Final Product Solve your Initial Problem?

This design I made solved a problem that I have is that sometimes I like to draw and create on my own but most of the time, my materials get very messed up and the pencils get messed up as well, so I won’t find it the next time.

What’s a Skill you Learned or Improved on Over the Course of This Project?

I think I mostly improved a lot on sewing because before this project, I was very bad at sewing and couldn’t sew straight but now I learned how to sew straight with my hand and even learned how to control and use the sewing machine.

What makes you proud of your Project?

I think this project made me learned a lot of things that I didn’t know before, for example, using the sewing machine and also sewing nice with my hands. I also saw how the teacher helped me put on the button. And this project also solved a lot of my organizing problems.

More space to put lots of pens and pencils. Sometimes when I want to draw at home, all my materials are  in one small box and sometimes just on the table which makes my table very messy and forgets where it’s supposed to be.

I got my idea inspired by the padlet that was on dx at first. At first, I put some of the designs on the padlet together that made my “smelling machine” For example, one of the ideas was a temperature gun.  And then I saw a couple of other objects inspired mine. For my “smelling machine” it has a small door at the back of it to change the web inside so the next time you text other smells, the smell you tested before will not get mixed up together. There are also buttons on the front, you can start it, stop it, or restart. And when you want to start testing, yo press the very top button. Then the smell will go into the web and the little touch screen at the back will show you what smell it is so you can see. there is also a place where you can hold at the bottom.

In this product design class, It was e-Learning at the beggining and we had to plan a lot of things at home and the place I chose is Hawaii. I chose the beach because beach makes me remember of Hawaii.

I think I have learned a lot of things in this product design class. I have especially how to use Adobe Illustrator. I have learned things that I didn’t know before like using wood to make places that are very important to us. Working with Adobe is also very fun because I didn’t know how to use it before and turning the wood into 3D shapes. We had to make a plan at the very beggining to draw it out on the paper and color it on, but on the paper, we also have to do it with different layers so it can look very similar to the wood project at last. I also learned how to make the shape go out like the coconut tree and also learned how to let it carve in the wood like the sun and the flower.

I also learned about acrylic paint, for example, the paint can’t be too much because if it goes out of the sides of the wood, the space won’t fit into the box. It was very fun dry fitting the LED light inside the box to make the perfect light we want in the box. We would add more water to help the paint not get too much on the edge of the wood peices. Sometimes when I think the light is too long and I don’t need that much, I can also cut off the end of the light which also makes the space perfect in the box. Some parts we had to super blue them to make them more strong and some parts we had to hot glue and also wood glue some of the wood pieces together.

If I were to change somethings, I would make the spacing of the coconut tree and the flower better because now, it doesn’t look very straight and when you look t it at the top, there is space where there is not supposed to be.

At last, we put everything together and put the light on to see if everything works.
