French Revolution – Making Educating Animation

This is a video i made on the french revolution. In my humanity class, I signed up to learn about french revolution, from 1789 to 1799. This video shows the events happened on French since 1789 to 1799, November 9, when Napoleon came to power. My teammates are Audrey an Abbie, and we divided out work by Audrey making script, I drawing the characters and places, and Abbie editing the video and uploading onto the stream. The main character of this video are king Louis XVI, queen Marie Antoinette, Robespierre, and Napoleon, and here is the short story plot.

  • France before revolution (cause of revolution)
  • Start of revolution (1789~)
  • Execution of Royal family and First and Second estates losing power
  • The Reign of Terror lead by Robespierre (1793~1795)
  • Napoleon takes power (1799)

Flowers In The Gutter – Central Idea (theme)

The book that I’m gonna talk about today is called ‘Flowers in the Gutter’ by K.R.Gaddy. This book talk about three children Gertrud, Fritz, and Jean, and other group of people who resisted to the Nazis, long for their freedom. Right after the World War 1, and Hitler and Nazis run the government of Germany, Gertrud, Fritz, and Jean lose their families and friends from Nazi, and pledge to stand up for themselves right and revenge to them. They joined resistance group of teenagers called ‘Pirates’ and do many resisting movements towards Nazi. They didn’t give up to Nazis pressure, and finally, Nazi lose the power, and they got returned their memory, Freedom, and life full of joy.

The task I was working on with this book was to track the main theme or central idea of this book. While reading this book and taking notes of it, I concluded that the main theme and lesson from this book is that people should stand up for themselves and their important things, not giving up to the pressures on them.

Here are the notes that I took while reading the book….

the first pictures shows how Nazis treated political prisoners and how peaceful were people’s daily lives before Nazis come to power, which means that they should fight for their right for themselves because nothing change without any movement and treatment of Nazis towards people keep are getting.

The second picture analysis important events in each chapters and compare the events that the main characters had with theme that is important in real life too, which says, ‘if people don’t give up on what they are doing, they will finally achieve the result that they want’, and it can be connected to the main central idea of this book because it is same that people should ‘do something to fight against something that stops them’ and they should not ‘give up.’

The third picture shows the timeline of first two parts of the book. The main thing of part 1 and 2 are the experiences of main characters and the way that Nazi tries to take away freedom of people and control people, which are enough reason for resistance of people and especially for the main characters, because the behaviors that Nazis showed towards them were so brutal.

The last picture shows the causes and effects of the actions that Nazis or the main characters have taken. It shows how the main characters change to hate Nazis A LOT and join anti-Nazi group and respond of Nazis(pressures, arrests, execution) towards their movement, which can represent both cause of the resistance towards Nazis and pressures or hindrances of them to stop the people who resists to their power.

Like what I mentioned, in the book, Nazis killed and beaten people who disagree to them and try to control the whole country as what they want. they arrest and execute people who disobey. However, the resistance group finally freed themselves from Nazis at the end of the book. Therefore, people in these days should learn from this book that they should stand up for themselves to achieve the goal they wish and shall not give up to things that interrupts them of pressures on them.

Book Talk – The Sun is Also a Star

This is the video of me giving book talk about the book called The Sun is also a Star. I took this video as assessment for book club unit on humanity class. While I was reading through the book and making this video, I learned way to synthesis character development, power dynamics, code shift, and gender norms. Because I tried not to look at the script at all so it ruins some of my pronunciation, and I would like to put some more details if I had more time.

Am I a Renaissance Humanist?

In class, we were talking about what mainly affected Renaissance people’s thinking, which was humanism, and this task is about making an infographic about 4 to 5 main humanism in Renaissance and how much I agree with it. I have wrote 4 main elements of Renaissance humanism which were basic beliefs of humanism, what humanists did, the purpose of humanism, and the impact that humanism made to Renaissance. Finally, I have wrote about whether I agree with humanism or not and the reason. I also added some related pictures about those elements.

Do you want to dive deeper about humanism?

Found Poem: The Last Kiss

Paragraph

In the text, I have highlighted words or phrases like kiss, oldest, I stunned, and sinking heart this describes the main conflict of the story, which is internal conflict that the main character ‘I’ thinking about the reason why his/her father doesn’t kiss him/her anymore. The reason that I thought this is the main conflict of the story is that the story after the first time father didn’t kiss to ‘I’ is all about the ‘I’ thinking about the reason of father’s behavior that he saw that night and how ‘I’ felt about father not kissing to ‘I’ and ‘I’ tries to get kiss from father again and again after that night. There are a lot of description how ‘I’ was panic such as: “I was stunned. There was something in his voice that made me decide not to ask again,” and this is the part of the conflict because it shows the feeling of the first day that father didn’t kiss to her/him.

The words that I highlighted also describes the climax of the story that ‘I’ finally realize and accept that he was too old to get kissed by father. My drawing at the background which are broken heart and rose represent the childhood of the author long for the love of his/her parents and this is related with the conflict of the story because the conflict is caused from the author willing his/her parents to love her/him more and to kiss him as a evidence. Therefore, he/she might be very anxious and hope to make sure the reason that father didn’t kissed to him/her.

Argumentative essay reflection

I think I did well on putting claim and evidence together and I need to improve giving credit to owner of my evidences.                     I marked on lower grade for L7.3 and I feel good because I did better than I thought.

The biggest challenge for planning is that I couldn’t find enough evidence for claim. At that moment, I was using only one resource, I tried other to resources and found much helpful evidences.

Percy Jackson blog post assessment

In pg. 17, Percy Jackson thought himself, “ I was homesick. I wanted to be with my mom in our little apartment on the Upper East Side, even if I had to go to public school and put up with my obnoxious stepfather and his stupid poker parties,” and choose to go home with Grover.

When he got his home, he met her mother and stepfather, who Percy calls smelly Gabe, and Percy’s mother plan to go trip to the beach, but they had car accident in chapter3, and the car almost exploded. Percy, his mother, and Grover get out of the car, and tried to ask for help, but they confronted with minotaur which is half man, half bull monster. Finally, Percy’s mother get caught by the minotaur, and she had gone. If he didn’t go home, he wouldn’t see his mother, but he couldn’t meet his stepfather, no car accident, and they wouldn’t attack by the monster(minotaur).

I think Percy decide something easily by his emotion, this time, he decided to go home because of emotion that he wants to see his mother, even Grover warn him that something bad is going to happen, and he already attack by monster, Mrs. Dodds, and if I was Percy, I could think that ‘maybe monsters can attack me again while I am at home.’ So I wants to give Percy some advice to control emotion before you decide something to do. First, stop before you decide, to give yourself a chance to think. Second, think what can be happen after you do what you want to do. Finally, consider what would happen if everyone were to take the same action. If this would be a disaster, then probably best not to do it. These are some tips from the article that I read. These worked very well at me, so I persuade you to try too.

What kind of person is Percy Jackson

In the book Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, the main character Percy Jackson is a boy who really loves his mother. For example, on pg. 29, Percy said that she is the best person in the world. Also, on pg. 50, Percy wanted to escape with his mom even though she told him to run. And finally, on pg. 59, Percy said, “Is my mom really…..” This sentence tells us that he cannot believe that his mom is gone. This texts makes me think that he admires this mother and really wanted to stay with her.
